Johnny Moyles' 2012 Ladbrokes Irish Derby Tipping Competition

Those of you that have participated in my Derby tipping competitions over the last few years will be fairly familiar with the way they work but below are the rules.

Basically you pick a dog in each heat. If it wins or is placed you get points. You also get 1 Nap and 1 Bismarck per round. If the Nap wins or comes second, you get double the score applicable. Your Bismarck is a dog you think that will go off as a favourite but you think it will lose. You get points if the dog is beaten and returned as favourite. You also have to pick an overall winner.

    PRIZES
The winner of each round will win 2 tickets to Shelbourne Park for the next round. The winner will be the person to score most points in a round. A tie breaker question will decide who wins in the case of a tie.

The overall winner will be the person who scores most points throughout the competition. In the event of a tie the person to have selected most Nap winners in the stake will take the prize. If there is still a tie, the person to select the most correct Bismarcks will land the spoils.

The grand prize this year with special thanks to Martin Tucker of Mount Cashel Kennels in Co. Roscommon will be a free service to any one of the following stud dogs:
    NAMBISCO
    NINJA JAMIE
    DROOPYS OSCAR
    FATBOYZ NODROG
    FATBOYZ TYSON
    THURLESBEG JOKER
    NINGBO JACK

    COMPETITION RULES

    How To Enter

All entries must be via the comment function on the Greyhound Star Blog. Please familiarise yourself with this beforehand. No entries via email, text, social networks, forums, hawk or smoke signals will be accepted. All entries must be received no later than 10mins before the official ‘off-time’ of the first Derby heat on any given night.

Selections must be entered on the official entry thread ONLY.

Only 1 entry is allowed per person. To be eligible for prizes you will be asked for full address and phone number.

    How To Play

Each round will have a defined number of races. You must select a dog in each race. Please note that in Round 1 there will be 3 nights racing, Rounds 2 and 3 will have 2 nights racing each, and then there will be a night each for each subsequent round.

Your selection must win or come second to score points. If your selection wins you get 10pts. If your selection comes second you get 5pts. If your selection is returned at an SP of 4/1 or bigger your score for that selection will be doubled.

NAP: You must pick one greyhound per round that is your NAP. If this selection wins you get an extra 50pts.

BISMARCK: You must pick one greyhound per round that is your BISMARCK. If this selection is beaten, and returned as Favourite, Joint Favourite or Co Favourite, you will receive 25pts, and if the selection’s SP is Evens or Odds-On, this becomes 50pts.

OVERALL PICK: Before the first race of the first round you must select a greyhound that you think will win the 2011 Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby. If the selection wins you will receive 100pts on top of your overall score. If the selection is runner-up in the Final you will receive 75pts on top of your overall score. If the selection is third you will get 50pts.

TIEBREAKER: A tiebreaker must be entered in each round –if no tiebreaker is submitted and you are in a tie, you will automatically lose that tiebreaker. The tiebreaker for all rounds is “What will be the fastest time of the round?” In the case of the final you simply guess the winning time. The person whose tiebreaker is closest to the fastest time recorded in that round will win the tiebreaker.

NON-RUNNERS: In the event of any selection being a non-runner, the selection automatically switches to the SP favourite. If there are joint or co-favourites then the lowest trap numbered favourite will be used. In the event that an overall selection becomes a non-runner or is withdrawn, that selection is void and no replacement will be permitted.
