Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What am I going to buy the wife for her birthday if there are no more books coming out?

    Expensive jewelery.

    R.I.P. I wasn't expecting that.

I'm gonna light a penny candle for her.

They're 25c now. but in Maeve's time... 1 old penny. Lovely person!

I loved her books and had the chance to meet her in person when she was once signing books in the Blanch centre.
I'd an ill relative at the time who also loved her books so I shot off, bought her latest, and asked her to reference the illness in her signing.

She left a lovely lovely message which is cherished to this day.

She was a lovely woman, very down to earth, and kind from that one interaction

I will miss her, her books, and her warmth

Best wishes to her family, they must be utterly devastated, 72 is a very very young age to die.

My heart goes out to her husband, Gordon. Maeve and Gordon always appeared to be an extremely close and loving couple.

A terrific writer and the country is a much poorer place without her. She always came across as a very genuine person and I'm sure she would be mortified at the media overkill in their coverage of her premature demise. Sad to see the 'paper of record' cashing in on her death with a big supplement today and lots of tacky radio advertising. Not surprising that the paper has gone to the dogs in recent years given that former editor Geraldine Kennedy in her interview yesterday repeatedly referred to newspaper columns as columes.

Incidentally there's a nice boxed set of some of Maeve's best books that were adapted for film on Amazon which includes The Lilac Bus, Echoes and The Anner House. Circle of Friends and Tara are also available on DVD.

    RIP
