We live in a rented apartment and would like to get home insurance but haven't been able to find anyone who can offer it.

The first problem is that we rent which limits us to tenant insurance, not really offered by everyone.
Second, as it is an apartment the main entry leads to a shared hallway and not to the exterior of the building.
Third, we had a claim on our home insurance just over 3 years ago.
Fourth, we are self employed (in different businesses).

The first one is merely limiting out choices but the other ones have made it quite difficult. Have been told 2 things so far.
    1) We don't meet their profile.
    2) The apartment does not meet their requirements.

Can anyone please recommend a company I may not have tried already?

    That makes no sense.

    1) contents only cover is offered by most insurers

    2) most apartments have a a shared hallway. Once you have your own door, this is not a problem.

    3) Unless it was quite sizeable, 10k or so this shouldnt make too much of a difference.

    4) Doesnt make any different to anything whatsoever!

Seeing as you don't say what companies you have gone to how can anyone suggest what ones to go to. Unless your claims was large or there is something you arent telling us, there should be no real problem getting contents cover.
