Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just hope it's easy to get. If I have to jump through hoops just to get it like the n10 then I just won't bother.

Last years N7 was available in Currys & PCW, Argos, HMV and Harvey's. Though I don't think Harvey's had it on launch.

You should be able to buy it in those places again. Not sure about HMV as I know they fooked off outta the rest of the country, but not so sure if they re-opened in Dublin yet?

    From here

"At least four HMV stores employing a total of 100 staff will be reopened in Ireland by the end of the summer, restructuring specialist Hilco has confirmed.
A new store will open in Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin, while existing premises on Henry Street, in the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, and Limerick’s Crescent Shopping Centre will be reopened."

I put 4.3 on last night , tbh it seems slower to me ... also Maps hangouts and something else showed updates but would actually update .

So I'm seeing so many reviews talking of how wonderful the first Nexus 7 was but how it slowed down so quickly.
Yep we know now it was sammys fault and how to sort it...
Mine did slow down but thanks to Gran Hermano for providing the link to the app that filled that unused space and cleaned it out, it's now as fast as it was on day one!

In all the previews/reviews of the new Nexus I feel like screaming at them to just try that darn app and then make your comparisons!
The Verge, Twit, engadget, Pocket Now and so many more are all banging that same drum! Is it really that unknown to everyone? Unless its something not related but I've not heard of anyone trying it and it not working.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,330 ✭✭✭Gran Hermano

I was thinking the exact same whilst reading the review on The Verge.
A month ago my N7 was crazy slow. It was an pain even using the browser and I found I was only using it for reading ebooks.

I did a quick Google and found the issue and solution, along with the app, on a number of for a before I tried it and shared here. I've had no problems since and am totally happy with the device.

Worth remembering it is only N7 owners who bought early who have the problem. If you bought at Christmas the bug was fixed by then. But yes, lazy journalists!

What is the trick/solution that you mention about speeding it up?

You need to re add your Google account under Settings>Accounts
Delete it and add it again

Try clearing the cache and data on Google play store and Google play services

Anyone having issues getting 4.3, this worked for me -

    1. Go to Settings -> Apps -> All

    2. Find Google Services Framework.

    3. Tap on Force Stop.

    4. Select Clear Data.

    5. Head back to the Nexus 4’s Settings, go to About, and check for a System Update.

I haven't either, stock rooted for me might be the problem here. Not actually going to install it as I want to keep root, but want the option! Feel like I'm missing out!

    OTA or manually updated ?

I want to reset mine to the original factory settings because I feel mine is the same , crawling after manual 4.3 update , but I am waiting for the OTA to be out . We have 3 N7's in the house and the other two haven't seen any sign of the update .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

    It was an OTA update.

All still good. looking very good on battery so far.

Did you clear cache and then stop force the app? After you do, go to settings and click "check for update" date should be something like 1970/01/01 after forcing this app to stop.
You may restart the nexus too.

Did all of that and the date showed 1970 for the last check, I didn't reboot it though...

... now I did. Still nothing.

Google services framework, clear data, force stop, reboot.
    Check for system updates.
If no update found go back to Google services and try again.

Took me on average around 6 tries before it found it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jonski

Did a factory restore just there , back to 4.1.2 , now going starting the system updates .

    Now it's found it. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jonski

After the factory install and reboot it went and found 4.2.2 and installed now it has just rebooted and found 4.3 and is installing , hopefully it won't be as laggy as it was when I manually updated it .

I was just wondering if I should buy the nexus 7 as it is in my local Tesco for €150 16GB model. Or should I wait for the Nexus 7 (2013). How much will the new model be roughly, so I can gage whether or not to purchase the older model.
