Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could be worse, the could be minding an exciting machine. There'd be no talking to them then.

How long before one of the protesters will claim that drill tried to rape them and send out an edited video that records just whirring sounds. :pac:

In any case, I actually can't see any Gardai in the main image on the site...

Not complaining about the Gardai. In the video that is on the site - there is four out riders, 2 cars, a horse unit and Shell's own security van. That seems a lot for a road-trip to Mayo. What are the horses for?

Not just foreign crusties - there are plenty of local crusties as well. Galway appears almost empty without them.

Any update on why the truck jack knifed ?

It's not like the number of incidents of bridge strikes didn't increase ten fold a few years ago. ;)

They can claim back expenses against tax on profits down the line anyway, so either way we pay.

Wouldn't matter if Shel do pay the cops, they are divirted away from other duties

They have a Duty to keep the peace, Shell are wholley lawfully engaging in business, the Gardai are required because of the actions of those illegally attempting to prevent Shell going about their business.
If you want to balme anyone for the amount of garda man hour used up, blame the Shell to Sea nutcases.

Is this is where the truck is stuck?

If so, did the driver take a wrong turn? Seems like a ridiculously small road for such a load to be travelling on.

This whole shell situation makes me ashamed to be Irish. Our own cops beating up our own people and working for an international corporation hell bent on destroying the planet for pure profit. Whatever about who is causing what, these people are protesting for something they believe in.

I have no faith in our democratic process, nor our political leaders who were bent and corrupt to let this awful deal happen in the first place- numbered offshore bank accounts nicely filled when this deal was struck im sure. They are traitors and should be done for treason. We're a joke of a nation.

I have no faith in our democratic process,
so what do you suggest replacing it with ?

also if you don't vote you have no right to complain about it.

The Garda are preventing people breaking the law. It doesn't matter what their nationality is, you can't expect the Garda to allow it

Shell are not hell bent on destroying the planet for pure profit. Knowing a few lads who work for them, I can only go on their experiences

The people may be protesting for something they believe in, doesn't make it right though if their actions are illegal

I too have little faith in our politicians, however can you give any examples in which a Government has achieved much more from a similar field? Given the likelihood of finding gas which would be financially viable to extract, the deal was sound

Seems to me that you don't really know much about the oil and gas industries, but you've heard people say things about it, and fancy yourself as a bit of hippy so jumped on the bandwagon

what kind of a fool infers that I don't vote, because I have no faith in it?

and what kind of a fool infers that I have no right to complain about it if I don't participate?

So I have no right to complain about, let's say, protesters being beaten up because I don't p[articipate in the protests?

Your logic is a mess, seek help.

Considering the machinery value being moved, the chances are that it is practically irreplaceable without losing years, the extreme size, you have to wonder, what numpty was put in charge of planning the route, and did the driver stray off it? If that was the planned route, PPPLPPP lads. Blushes all round.
Problem is not getting a strong enough crane, I'd say the issue is siting a crane like that - unlikly the road would be wide or strong enough and a pad would need to be built. They need a me, cos if that was my tbm, i'd use the routeplanner and driver as jackstays for the crane and their flutes as flyjibs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,998 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

You can see pretty clearly in one of the "road widening" videos that the road collapsed on the turn, there is a broken white centre line with the jagged edge of the torn road two feet away from it.

And the fact that the now parked trailer has sunk so badly into the road shows the quality of the foundation for that particular section.

I think its fair to say its not particularly the route planners fault for that and I can't blame the driver for saying he won't go any further. A jackknifed trailer with that weight and even a small drop could send that truck flying.

Indeed. We are feckin inundated with 160 ton tunneling machines round here, Kildare co.co need to up their game. So, are we gonna update them all now, or just the most used ones? They can't fix the potholes genius, they're hardly going to dig them all up and start from scratch.

You have a point then: why wasn't the original load transported by sea?

If these trucks are blocking a public road then surely the Gardai will have to give them a ticket no?

Aren't they obliged to uphold the law of the land?

    he has a great point.

The amount of crime in Dublin is unreal. Two freinds of mine were assalted recently and robbed- serious assaults like. One didnt go to the hospital cos it was a saturday night- he had to fight for 2 weeks to get someone to take a statement. The other had to go down and do a survey of cctv possible captures, when he heard nothing for 2 weeks, and they said they didnt know if there was any CCTV in the area. half the guards don't care anymore (really dont care, and who can blame them - i know one, and he has given up) and half of them are snowed under.

I live near Phibsboro in cabra, and i swear to christ, there's burglaries every day. Drug deals openly happening on the hump over the road into cabra. Scum of the earth cycling down ulster street and the windy roads up there on bikes trying to snatch purses and phones out of people's hands.

Listen to Joe ( for all his faults, he performs a service) on liveline this week, and listen to the amount of crime that is happening in this country. lsiten to the rural garda stations that are being shut. And now witness the amount of garda resources we are giving to an oil company that has proven itself to be an environmental satan, and purely driven by greed and profit - currently en route to destroy the arctic, and already admitting it cant meet the EPA standards, and spill response standards, and yet is still pushing ahead. And then pause....

To all you fools with your contrarian bullsh*t attitudes, and drillbabydrill muppetry, you haven't a clue. Our nation, is a corrupt cesspool. This whole shell situation wouldn't need policing if we had only got a fair deal. Any other country in the world would have had the BALLS to change this deal, to hell with the implications; none would have blamed us.

'Dear world, we're upping our percentage of the Shell deal because it's ours, and the previous deal means the Irish people don't get anything for whatever reason. If a country standing up for what is fair, and demonstrating the intelligence to broker a fair deal is not what you're looking for, then f*ck off somewhere else"

I guarantee not ONE company would decide to not invest here if we changed the deal and made it fair.

We're a f*cking joke of a nation, im ashamed to be Irish, and every politician in this country that sits idly by and doesnt attempt to redress thsi situation is traitorous treasonous scum- and i'll gladly say that to their faces.

Ashamed to be Irish I am, with the sick, and deprived in this country, and we haven't the balls to take a piece of what's ours. Ashamed to be Irish. joke of a nation. Scumlot of politicians looking after each other.
