The Moorings on the Quay is a nice spot that stocks Dungarvan Brewing Company beer. The four types of beer are Helvick Gold, Balck Rock, Copper Coast and Comeragh Challenger. Food is delicious there too!

how does this 160k compare to the Burren? reckon I may have to look for a shortcut to skip tickinor!

I am hoping to do the 160k on Sunday and was intending to head home back to Dublin after it but am now thinking about staying down on sunday night. Looking for some advice. Would it be worth staying down on Sunday night for the craic or does everyone go their own way and head home?

The Local bar, Tommy Powers(with old school shop at front) and Lady Belle are all in Square and grand spot for a bottle or six

Climbs are much longer and tougher on skt.
Ticincor easy to avoid just don't take left. ! mile on turn left (don't cross bridge) which after 2 miles brings you to feed stop at bottom of mountain road

Mahon falls easy to avoid also

I will be one of the stray sheep..loooool..unless there is a kind soul out there who can not make it with a free entry (all those mouths to feed..lol). The WW200 was a glorious day and I think there will be a big buzz with the SKT as it is apparently very well organised. I mean in the WW200 they ran out of water at the water stop..IMAO. In fairness did have good roving patrol support vehicles. The weather looks favourable although predict slight showers in the afternoon. I think my stratedgy will be to leave with the 160k lot, do the 100k and sprint for the finish and tell everyone at the finish god that 160k was quite tough...looooooooool. look at all those professional cyclists in their carbon frames and me giloppy and say, 'what took you boys so long?' My second sportive in my one year cycling career and god bless going to give it a go. If not just to be part of the army of 5000 cyclists!! Reminds me must sort out me Cycling Ireland Insurance!!

All good spots mentioned so far. Just to add to it, Merry's, near the Tannery does fine grub, and has two Dungarvan beers on cask.

If I survive the 100k that's where I'll probably be.

if its a nice day visit Clonea Strand....3 miles out of town.
Drive in the Comeragh Mts to Mahon Falls via the magic road where cars roll uphill in neutral.

However I can report that if you stop pedalling on the way up on Sunday the bike will not roll up the hill by itself

Rode the majority of the 100Km route yesterday on a club charity spin, From Youghal Bridge across is going to be dodgy, road surface is ****e, there's running water, loads of gravel and lots of dirt on the road from rain. It's worse coming down from Knockanore to Lismore.

The Sean Kelly Tour Traffic Management Division have since swept said roads and have potholes filled. All roads are race-ready for Sunday!

All participants will get a flapjack (original, cranberry and choc chip! :) ) include in their bag along with jersey and more flapjacks will be available in the food stops. Water stops will have water and bananas as well.

I'd just enter the SKT for the unreal food at the food stops :p

Anyone going in the morning from Kilkenny area? I have no car available that day and I am looking at various options. I am not too fancy cycling early in the morning to Dungarvan prior to the Event, but may have no choice.

Well you can tell Flahavans it works, I buy at least a pack every week. Can't get the cranberry in Cork though.

I still holding out for a free entry....anyone..anyone.....loooooooooool. I did get my insurance sorted out though. I nearly crashed on the WW200 coming out after Avoca....I was flying along and hit a tee junction...well god bless that motorist brains to burn he gave way to me. For those that worry about gearing you cam also walk up those hills...when I was younger did it many times in Norway and I am not busting a knee joint on some misguided principle. The Guiness will simply taste ever so more sweet after the achievement. I am heading out from Killeagh on Sunday Morning, Sis taking me in a van. Hey I have a better support team then Lance Armstrong....with the grace of God it will be a nice day...he will have 5000 souls praying for it. I probably got room for one maybe two extra cyclists in the back of the van for those of us who think the warm up should be done in the event and logistics can sometimes be a problem. I am going to take it easy and do the 100 and simply enjoy the scenery. It will be a one way deal as I plan to cycle the 40 km from Dungarvan back to Kileagh weather permitting. If the weather turns murky then I will ask for a ride back to the den. For those like me new to cycling in my wonder years OK not yet 50..loool, just bring a sense of humour. The cycling fraternity are ever so helpful so I doubt anyone will ever get caught out and they apparently have a broom wagon..bless them. I did 320km in one day and I learned a lot. The secret is not to go mad, use the gears and keep the cadence high. Load up on pasta the night before and three hours prior to the event. As for fancy drinks, pinch of salt honey and orange dilute but not to make it too sweet, good to go. You may not win the lottery but after the event it feels a close second. Good luck to all on what I am sure will be a memorable event.

I presume they would be strict with time of 8pm deadline this evening

I'm working now and must make a detour via Kanturk after-work before heading for Dungarvan and may just be tight with time - Would they normally be prompt with 8pm deadline, or within 10-15mins ? :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

Wheels for the new build never arrived during the week  so will be heading down for the 160km on the mountain bike. Not sure what route I'll end up doing, happy enough to get to Clonmel from there I'll see how much of the Comeragh mts I can attempt! Still looking forward to it but would have hoped the new build would be ready for this one.

I don't think it's about being strict with deadlines, 8pm is just the time that the volunteers will be looking to head home.

If you're there for 8:10 you might find some still about.

It only takes 30 seconds to sign on. You sign your name, they give you your number sheet and the safety instructions and your jersey and that's it.

Can anyone tell me where the leisure centre is in Dungarvan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,502 ✭✭✭Seweryn

Important Message from GoDungarvan: As you may be aware Dungarvan is a Smarter Travel Area. As such we would like to encourage all participants, spectators and volunteers to cycle, walk or car share while travelling to Event HQ. Choosing sustainable transport will mean less congestion around the start/finish area and will also benefit the environment, your pocket and health!

I wonder, would they be prepared to post the Goody Bags and Certificates, as I will have no way of transporting it home?

Hey, is there shower facilities for afters?

Or for those of us with a 2hr drive home is it a case of a can of lynx and hope for the best?

Yes I believe the shower facilities in the sports centre are available....not 100% on that mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭cornerboy

    Update.....from the website FAQ

Are there changing and shower facilities?
Yes. Dungaravan Sports Centre will act as event HQ for the day. Services on offer there will include changing/shower facilities, post-event refreshments, post event sports massage etc.

Try T.F Meaghar street, Sports center phone is 058 41111. Going on last year there should be plenty of signage around. Good luck.

Try http://www.glashafarmhouse.com/ nice spot about 16 miles from Dungarvan, on your way from Clonmel to Dungarvan.

Not connected, but very nice pub a stroll down road. Glasha grub very good.
Check will she do early morning breakfast though.
