Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just had a blazing row with a compulsive liar who continued to lie through his ass even though i had evidence in front of me proving he was lying:mad:

    why do people do this?

Besides blasting him with piss how would AHers handle this- i need a laugh right now :)

Because you can't handle the truth!

I'd be reading the charter for one ;)

And jokes aside: how bad is he? Does he lie about little things or just comes out with completely false stories that are noway believable?

In either case: slap him everytime he lies and tell him it's just the wind, soon he will learn not to lie and then you won't need to lie to him.

Evidence is irrelevant to a professional liar, it's just something else to wriggle out of.

Just ignore him/her unless you're feeling mischievous, then present your evidence and call the person a liar in a strong tone, then watch them try squirm/lie their way out of that situation. good fun!

    Wait, what if...

The OP is the compulsive liar and is lying to us about his place in the argument?

He's trying to find a way out of this conundrum

OP is a frikkin' liar, man.

Both! he would say he was stopped in the street by a model scout and told he looks like david beckham (no he doesnt- he looks like a foot tbh) and the amount of bollocks that comes out of his mouth...

Reason im so mad was i organised an interview for him through a friend of mine and he claimed he went and that they were ignorant to him so he walked out.

He Failed to mention he started throwing things around abusing them and the police were called, i only found out when i got a call from my friend

    mortified i am!

It was in a hotel to work in the bar, they didnt really want anyone with no experience but my friend who is a manager there owed me a favour and said if he did well in the interview he could be trained up.

All they asked was had he a criminal record and he went spastic at them

But he came to me claiming they asked him was he gay and that they wouldnt employ gay people in the hotel- so he walked out:eek: And for the hour between then and the phone call THICKO here believed him:mad:

Compulsive liars generally do not see themselves as liars and even when confronted with the truth, will turn it back on you and blame something you did that made them lie.

I suggest going to an open space and screaming as loud as you can or watch some porn where a man is taking a good whacking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭fishy fishy

    drop him,

I have dealt with a compulsive liar before - no matter what evidence you have they will wriggle out of it - they have a knack for it (maybe because of all the practice). In fact, I actually found out all the lies that this person told, some about me, some about others in order for him to be able to do what he wanted, no questions asked.

When I confronted him about it, I was told I was wrong to confront him, while the others just looked on. The liar then acted like a victim when I stood my ground and demanded an apology, hence making me out to be the wrongdoer while he liar made sure he came out squeaky clean by playing victim.

Moral of the story - dump him - not worth your stress, and once a liar, always a liar. I'd rather be upfront and honest than sly and dishonest to get by in life

Mostly everything I post about myself on boards is a lie.

One minute I have a job, one minute I'm on the dole. I'm married, I'm single, I'm fat, I'm skinny.

Who knows if I even exist at all?

You believed that, Christ how gullible are you!
I mean I've conducted a good few interviews in my time and one of the first questions we ask potential candidates is:

"Excuse me <insert name>, can you tell me if you are gay?"

"Certainly, I am a proud homosexual"

"Ok this interview is over, thank you for coming in today. Don't call us, we'll call you. Now if you wouldn't mind leaving first as I don't want you checking out my peachy toosh as you are walking. I won't shake your hand as no doubt it'll be one of those flimsy limp wristed ones that ye 'gays' do. Now enjoy the rest of your day listening to Right Said Fred and drinking fruit based alcoholic beverages while checking out 'Gloryhole Irealnd' online!"

Seriously, like any would be employer will ask about sexual orientation!!

I think blatant liars are great. You can't but laugh at them. Reminds me of yer man Comical Ali at the start of the Iraq War from the top of the Information Ministry Building when he was telling all the news stations there were no US Troops in Iraq. "They're not even within 100 miles of Baghdad. They are not in any place. They hold no place in Iraq ...". Cue Sky News camera man zooming over his shoulder to US Tanks coming up the same street that the building was on.

I have a friend that is a compulsive liar and it has gotten consistently worse over the 20 or so years i've known him simply because it works.

He will completely fabricate situations and conversations to big himself up to people even though he will be around other people that were present when the stuff he is talking about didn't happen.

He will borrow other peoples stories and pretend they happened to him, once again regaling people with the story in front of the person it actually happened to. He will also make up stories about me and our friends and then you get a phone call or text from him saying "you did X if anyone asks you, all right?"

Any attempt to call him on his bull**** is met with anger and an effort to make you look like a fool for suggesting he might be lying.

And what does all this lying cost him? Nothing. In fact, it had only been a positive thing for him.

He has his pick of women because he will always tell them what they want to hear and they are impressed by his tales of stuff that never happened. He's seen as one of the "right lads" around the town based on stuff that also never happened. The few times that people other than my friends and me have caught him out, they stay pissed at him for maybe a day or two and then it's right back to worshiping him again.

People love being lied to. It's just hard for the people who are trying to be someones friend to be around a compulsive liar.

I am pretty sure you can't ask somebody if they have a criminal record. You can do a security check and have to tell them you will be doing it.

This was about 3 years ago, i actually checked with citizens information after the interview- and they checked and found that because it was an english company they were allowed to ask because different laws there:eek:

No it had no relivance to the job at all i think they were just being nosy.

We all have that one friend who blatantly lies about pulling birds! "Ah you should have seen her man, easily a 10!. Brought her back to the gaf and she screamed the house down" (lives at home with his parents and younger sister). He says this almost every weekend and is always pulling foreign birds...but when you ask him a few months down the line, how many foreigners has he pulled he can't give an honest answer of none, instead he mutters "eh well eh there was that Australian bird that none of you's had seen, eh that American one, Polish eh eh eh eh" - please stop talking sh*te mate, you're only embarrassing yourself!

just be careful about blatant and compulsive liars - they are experts and what they do and can manipulate the situation once they are found out.

Be very very wary of them, but stick to your ground and don't give in to your principles.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,952 ✭✭✭Lando Griffin

Probably have low self esteem and feel inferior to people around them.
Then on the other end of the spectrum some of our most established politicians and some not so established are compulsive liars stroke persuaders.
I think personally its always better to be as truthful as possible as you will always be caught out.

    Agreed with this.

I was on the receiving end of a liar and it was absolutely nasty, rotten stuff. You are used, degraded and not deserving of the truth. More lies follow to save their own ass and to resolve themselves of responsibilty in which nothing makes sense to you. You have a jigsaw to put together but it's crooked. I sniffed something was up in the earlier days but gave him the benefit of the doubt, that and I was also curious as to what he was playing at, if anything. Before long I was roped in and tied to his sh1t trying to make sense of it.

Liars are selfish people who use others for their own gains and lie more to distort and degrade you.

The fcuk that I was involved with and the mess that I found myself in led to a severe downturn patch in me in which I am considering counselling and psychotherphy to try and make sense of that and move on.
