The dog's journey time will be the same regardless of whether the OP chooses a saloon or an estate.

    Apologies, misread your post.

Whatever way you cut it, if the dog were choosing they'd go for the estate. :)

Likewise, if I was choosing id go for the 6-series gran-coupe! But because of my VERY WELL KEPT DOG that aint gonna happen! So me and dog will call it even stephens and get 5-series!

But likewise again.... She'd also choose to eat fillet steak everyday for her dinner instead of Science Plan... not everyone gets what they want... not even a dog. sometimes a compromise doesn't mean discomfort, cruelty to animals or a little black box for her to sit in! She may just have to eat T-bone for a while!!! :D

And back on TOPIC, if I were choosing colour Id have BLACK SAPPHIRE!!!!.... But again not everybody gets what they want or their 1st choice!

...maybe it's just me: maybe I'm getting old..........but...........if you just want to plain change your car, because you want to, then fair play to you, and buy anything you like, colour included.

It is true, imho, that certain colours 'suit' the new 5 series, and imho, any black isn't one of them. Personally, I'd be going for the white, but that's just me.

No, the thing I find amusing is that you have a recent car you love, and you somehow think it's not big enough for a baby - it is only ONE child you're having, right - not Twins/Trips/Quads ?? ;)

I reared my two, now 9 & 12, in a series of Audi TT's, an old 911, and a brace of 968's. A 3-series is of a magnitude bigger than all of them, so, frankly, I hope you're not changing your car because you think you 'have to'.......the 3-series is more than big enough.

As for the dog - mmmm....this is tougher than the baby tbh - I'm a convert to estates in recent years, and imho many of the current crop of cars look better in their estate form than in saloon. It's not that their bigger - they're not, usually - but the boot space is infinately more accessible. The fact that the dog can sit up in it is a ++.

And, not that it matters a jot, but and estate will be ultimately far more resaleable in the future, as well.

Finally, a word on spec: are you getting leather upholstery ? I hope so, it is infinitely easier to keep, and more child-friendly, than any cloth. In the same vein, I hope it's an auto you're buying as well - it is the 'making' of that car, then.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Thanks! Im guessing this is prob why they dont do Sapphire but still dont understand it. But im no expert... They know best after all. Yes the white is lovely looking. Just not sure if id buy a white car. But gonna email BMW anyway. Am going to go and take a look at colours again.

Yes if it was just baby I wouldnt be thinking of a 5-series. I would either stick with my current car or purchase one I really really liked... perhaps even wait a few years. Prob some form of 4-door coupe.

Yes def getting leather!!!! Have full leather in my current car and it is a god send! So easy to clean!

And as for estate... I spose I just dont really like them. Its just like Im not really gone on micras or puntos or 2-door mercs. And I wouldnt want to spend 60K + on a car I wasnt really gone on. They just wouldnt be for me...

+ 1 on the F10 in white, although i think they look beautiful in any colour.

i also think they are a smashing estate but thats a personal preference for you, prob too much of a change going from 2 door coupe to an estate!!

Whatever you decide best of luck and happy motoring :)

Fcuk the dog - the op question is about the colour !
Joe duffys have 4 black se on the forecourt and they look crap .
Very hard to distinguish the blue hue in the carbon black unless it's immaculate , it really looks black most of the time .
White is cool but in your face , carbon black or the lighter grey with the rear tint is the way to go . Leather standard in all f10 's
