Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A search is under way near Dublin Castle after a number of men opened a manhole at the gates of Dublin Castle.
An alert began at 9.30pm last night when a ladder was put into the manhole and two men climbed down.
The area has been sealed off and the Garda Underwater Unit are due to join the search.

I doubt it was a bunch of drunk lads messing about. Random drunks don't tend to bring ladders around with them.

My guess would be they were trying to explore the tunnels that the River Poddle runs through, which lie under Dublin Castle.

They're briefly mentioned in this wikipedia article:

The T Rex has just been killed in a fire in a church. An elderly woman blessed herself. A child is crying. I'm not sure about the symbolism of the whole thing, but I think it means Jesus killed the lizard people and as such Holy God and his crew are the champions.

Was on Creedon's Cities only a few weeks back. He mentioned it runs under Dame St. Maybe they think it goes under a bank or something...

Last time there was an incident involving the tunnels around there it was an attempt to dig into a bank vault on Dame St. whilst most people were off celebrating Christmas. I wouldn't be surprised if some people were planning similar over this bank holiday weekend.

+1 on this, they will search and find nothing because in the mean time someone will be climbing into a different pot hole close to the banks and getting ready to clear out a safe and no one will know till Tuesday.

Have a look at the manhole cover at 3.58 in that documentary. It appears to be the same one that's in the photo on RTE's website http://img.rasset.ie/00063a5f-314.jpg

Maybe a couple of lads saw this documentary and fancied recreating the experience for themselves?

Meant to be motion / light sensors at the covers that are anywhere near banks days.

Journalist terrified in Dublin hole shocker
    by Niamh Horan.

The metal disc came up without warning and there it was in front of me - a gieant hole in the middle of the busy street. Weekend revellers backed away cautiously and for a few seconds I thought it was going to grow and swallow the entire city. I ran breathelssly for cover. Terrifying mages of giant skyscrapers disappearing a la 9-11 into a sudden void danced in my subconscious...

y'all may not be aware , but that River Poddle is full of eels .

You see all the local restaurants dump their left-overs in there ...........This manhole would be the perfect place for all hungry fishermen

Only in Japan will you find men eating eels out of a filthy hole.

It does sound like the premise for either a Japanses porn or a Japanese monster horror movie. Could go either way...

I'd like to say I've never seen a japanese girl with an eel rectally inserted. I'd like to...

Back on topic, it seems the guards are still searching for the two men:

They're far too late. The banks have already been robbed .... from the inside.
Unless it was Seanie and Fingers trying to put the money back.

I don't think Tunnels can cover somwhere, by definition they need to be under stuff, otherwise there'd be nothing to err, tunnel through.
