    Hey all,

There's plenty of discussion on bang for buck in terms of full size cards, but what about a laptop card. Have to replace a laptops 9600m and as its an older GPU I was thinking there are probably better options than €100+ for one of them.

Its for a user who's a casual gamer, up to Portal 2 kind of spec.

    Thanks,
    ED E.

PS: Its sort of laptops, but this forum has all the expertise

You'd have to look at the individual laptop itself. There's usually very little scope for upgrading graphics cards in them. When they are upgradable, they're designed for only a small window of models; you only have a few cards to upgrade to usually no more than a generation of a difference, which are also expensive.

Quite a few laptops have mini-PCI-E but that hasn't really lifted off for graphics cards.

You'd have to open it up. Most laptops simply solder their GPUs to the motherboard. Some high-end laptops (probably not something with a 9600M in it) use MXM-compatible graphics cards, but even then, you're limited to whatever that particular BIOS will support in most cases.

Its MXM alright, should have said so above, but didnt realize it was bios limited, will have a read and see what's available for it.

BTW, its fully disassembled already. GPU cooler was totally blocked with dust, no wonder it died

Ah, cool. Then you'll have options. What's the laptop?
