Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hungry reading this.

Round crusty roll, buttered with chips and baked beans

    or

Soft brown roll with ham, sliced egg and mayo

    or

Brown bread with ham, crunchy peanut butter, inside bit of basic type lettuce and salt and vinegar crisps

    Decisions, decisions, hmmmm

A nice breakfast roll is superb.

You also cant beat a hot chicken roll with coleslaw, cheese, onion and lettuce.

In subway I like the Italian BMT, subway melt or chicken and bacon.

Finally a spiced beef roll from the sandwich place in the English market in Cork is very tasty, actually most of their stuff is very nice and its healthy too but very expensive.

    Crusty roll
    Two slices ham
    Coleslaw
    Grated Cheese
    Onion

Proper ham not the 97% water and salt stuff.
Ham has to go on first. First I tells ya!

It sounds strange, but it works off the same principles as bacon with pancakes and maple syrup.

Is also amazing as a peanut butter bacon burger.

Just try not to eat it any more than... once... or you'll probably have a heart attack.

purchase nice small rolls (not the ones full of bread where it's all dough and no room for filling).

purchase some tuna tins -bring home and mix with onion - apply to roll.

purchase some turkey (preferably the real stuff) fill roll with salad, and turkey.

purchase some hang - fill roll with hang for a hanger sanger.

    Now this is the secret

Make them in the morning. then head on off for the day - by the time you get to eat them at lunchtime all the flavors will have blended into the bread and they will be soooooooooooo tasty. preferable eat them outdoors.

Home-made sangers are a million miles ahead of anything you would get in a shop.

I do my own home rolls. A freshly baked Superquinn floury bap. A couple of streaky rashers, a few slices of vine ripened tomatoes, little bit of lettuce. Sauce, brown or tomato ketchup which ever you like best. My idea of roll heaven.

That just made my mouth water, sounds good. Maybe it was the way you described it

Egg salad, or egg in any form in a sandwich makes me want to projectile spew.

The smell is enough to make me retch, and the taste...bleurgghh :(

i like to pull all the doughy bread out of the roll, basically just leaving the crusty outside. this leaves more room for filling.

Chicken, grated cheese & egg mayo is the definitive roll. Also, anyone who doesn't like rolls has deep issues.

  • Registered Users Posts: 202 ✭✭getuponthis

Has to be a freshly cooked chicken fillet on a nice soft roll with lettuce and mayonnaise..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,184 ✭✭✭marshbaboon

    Oh oh oh...

Nice crispy baguette, real butter, chips, garlic mayo & cold tikka chicken from the salad bar.

    lettuce & red onion optional.

    Yum.

This. It's what you put into the roll that has all the taste. Try eating a roll without anything in it, butter or sauce. not as nice?

Just stick the filler on a plate and stop eating shyte.

A staple lunch during the boom times when plain bread just wasn't fancy enough. The other day i made myself an egg salad and ham roll. Absolutely beautiful and i could have made 4 rolls for the same price as a shop made one but that's another thread. As i was eating it i realized that egg salad and ham is the nicest roll.

So after hours folk. What is your favourite roll?

shows you the profit that was made from breakfast roll man

I beg to differ. I bake some kickass bread and I'd often have a lovely bit of fresh bread without even butter on it. Especially hot from the oven.

Wouldn't do it with a loaf of brennans mind...

lettuce, coleslaw, red onion, popcorn chicken and bacon on a fresh crispy roll :)

I'm sure you do bake some kickass bread, I just see it as an unnessesary filler. Replace all the bread with more veggies and protein, I find it more satisfying anyway. Bready stuff bloats me and makes me feel overly full. A sandwich would do that, let alone a roll.

A freshly cooked roll - just out of the oven, lots of butter, some hot ham roasted in a honey-mustard glaze and a sprinkling of potato cubes. Mmmm, your whole dinner right there!

It says a lot about Irish cuisine that a hot white roll is considered decadent food belonging to the boom times.

If I do have some kind of roll, which is rare, it's generally a light ciabatta warmed in the oven, with prosciutto and rocket, with either a little butter or mozzarella.

I've had a few rolls from places like Centra, but they're nothing special to me: tasteless bread and bland, processed ingredients. In my opinion.
It makes more sense to me to make one at home for a lot, lot cheaper, with nicer ingredients that you can still get in any supermarket.

But then I also don't like new potatoes, so what do I know.

The bread makes it, its just not the same eating the stuff without it. Also a roll with butter tastes lovely imo.

Oh I know it can be, but I can't be too fussy darling! :). Most importantly, it tastes nice.

New potatoes usually make me gag though, especially if they're floury.

On a roll, I like to keep it simple.. I get one of those seeded baguettes. Butter, grated cheese and tomato. YUM!
