I saw this object in a street in New Ross when I was passing through.

The only logical thing I can think of is that it's for buskers to use for collection, but even then it doesn't look very accessible.

    Anyone know?

We dropped a cent in it and could hear that it had some coins in it already.

is it a bollard that they can remove to temporarily allow traffic up a side street or something?! I don't know where it is so if there isn't a road beside it then that rules that out.... Maybe its someone's money box... clever! I might set up one :D

It's not a bollard, there are other bollards surrounding it.

An image of the spot I found on the internet:
The strange object is placed right where those black flower boxes are on the left.

And here's the streetview, the flowerboxes have changed since the picture above.

3-legged men are a regular sight on the streets of NR - Have you been drinkin' cans too ? :)

Phil Hogan has ordered that these boxes be placed on all busy streets in every town in the country. You throw any loose change you dont want in the slot, especially coppers and its collected after dark by the council/corporation. :D
Its plan B, as he got a massive kick in the teeth with plan A, aka houshold property tax.

P.S. for safety reasons Limerick City is deemed exempt from these boxes.:D
