Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Players to have a breakout season this season

As the thread title said, who will be the Leon Britton/Demba Ba etc. of this season i.e. a player who would not have been on many people's radar going into the season but performed at a level above previous seasons for their team. Don't think there's been a thread like this yet this year, if I'm wrong then ignore.

I'm going to go for Jack Collison off West Ham, always struck me as a really good player who never really got the breaks he needed (injuries have been a killer for him). But under a good manager (as much flak as Big Sam gets he is a very good manager imo) and in a team that I expect to exceed expectations this season I feel Collison will come into his own.

Does Jordan Henderson count? If not, Davide Santon.

Mikel hopefully. if we play a 4-2-3-1 he'll need to play very well in CDM for the entire campaign and he looks to be our number 1 option there. Hes improved a bit but he really needs a big season I think.

What about the "old" Jack Rodwell actually? He must be due a big season at some stage.

Stephen Ireland could surprise a good few people this year. I know he was Villa's POTY last season, but he wasn't exactly seen as a standout performer.

    Stephan El Shaarawy.
Played 28 games last year but only scored 4 goals, I expect double digits this year.

Agreed doesn't deserve the stick he gets, if you watch him he just glides past people with the ball which is a rare skill these days.

If he improves his finishing at all he could be a stand out player.

I think we will see the return of Torres if that counts

After seeing him playing against City in pre-season, he still hasnt learned how to pass the ball at the right time. He will continue to flop, i will stake my reputation on it.

N'zogbia, because he has magic feet and finally has a decent manager.
Borini because I think he will start every game in a system that will suit him as the spearhead.
Oxlade-Chamberlain because he is supremely talented and I think Wenger will play him alot more, especially if Walcott and RVP go.

I dunno about Oxo-Chamberlain. Wenger is too much of a hipster to give the crowd what they want

Yes but if Walcott and RVP go, which looks probable.....he will definitely get some gametime. And I think he will light up the place if he does.

Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana. Have to lol at people saying Downing

Big season for Tom Cleverley imo. If he can stay relatively injury free, I think and hope he will really kick on this season.

Not all that flashy a player, but I just love the way he plays the game - smartly. Gets the ball, moves it on and looks for space so he can take the return pass. I reckon he has the potential to establish himself as a key player for United over the next few months.

Just as long as he doesn't spend more time on the treatment table than the pitch.

    Cork at Southampton...daycent like!

Ji Dong-Won, eventually as the season progresses. Also I think there's a lot of confusion as to what a breakout season actually means...

Definitely, we've produced our most promising batch of youngsters in a long-time.

Cleverley, Lallana should both do very well.

I'd expect Taarabt to do much better this season if he can subdue the crazy.
Coates, Shelvey, Martin kelly, Suso, Sterling, Borini, Downing will all have excellent seasons.

Hmmm.......not sure if this is serious, or an example of why people take the piss out of Liverpool fans eternal optimism.

I'd wager shelvey will catch a few peoples interest this season. Coates if he gets the chance should impress, would imagine hell see game time. Suso and sterling have bags of potential and skill so that's a fair assumption again that they'll have a breakout season. Borini is unknown but is apparently rated highly enough so well see

Aaaaaand downing can't possibly have a worser season then last season so yeah :pac:

So far I'd say David Cawley , Kieran Marty Watters and Chris Forrester

    Steven Taylor
