Grand I'll settle on the couch for the next couple of hours then.

Its only 20km and 6km gone, should be well finished in two hours.

Just tuned in to BBC to hear them saying that the final event in the pentathlon is "running and shooting with laser pistols". All I can think of is some sort of Q-zar game.

But one of your feet should be in touch with the ground at all times and hers clearly aren't. Like most of them when they show the slow-mo

It's been going on for years. The one foot rule is just a joke now.

Hard to see from the tv pictures if theres one foot on the ground at all times, they move their feet so fast, well that the object of the exercise, but the slow motion picks it up, George said the the judges can not use video evidence, is there another Sep over the race walker organisation?

Wouldn't it be funny to qualify for a walking event in the Olympics and then walk the course at a leisurely pace.

Some lovely bottoms in the walking.

Haha yeah she was smiling for nearly a lap, well it looked like she was smiling, could have been pain.

I feel really bad for Kaniskina tbh, to be leading the entire time then have someone overtake you on the last lap AND beat the world record must be gutting

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,006 ✭✭✭donfers

Loughnane will be disappointed with that, 13th place for a world championship silver medalist

I guess the only one of our track and field (and walkers) who really did themselves proud was robert heffernan

a disappointing showing overall from them bar rob

I guess everything is cyclical and there'll inevitably come a time again when we'll only qualify one boxer who'll get beaten in the last 16.

Just another thing on that point i do feel that the boxing success at this years Olympics will have left a huge legacy going forward and in particular with Katie's success. Numbers in boxing clubs will be boosted not just by young boys wanting to emulate their heroes at these games but also young girls wanting to emulate Katie Taylor.

1992 in no way possible left anything resembling a legacy but i think Amateur Boxing has become alot more popular in the last few years and has gained more public exposure.

The professional scene sort of blitzed the amateur in the 1990s with Wayne McCullough turning pro and Steve Collins winning the world title so the IABA didn't quite capatilise on McCullough and Carruth's Barcelona success.

And now its onto the combined event in the Pentathlon.

I wish they didnt stop running to take their shooting turns.
It would be cool if they fired at targets on the run.

I would award bonus points to the competitor who best dives slow-motion to the ground shooting at the same time! :D

Don't think they have enough events, GB is on 26, Russia 19, they have a guy in one of the Wrestling finals but they need John Joe to win to block GB and pick up 3-4 medals in athletics tonight to even get close.

    Ah thank you your eminence.
It doesn't strike me as very modern. Was it all the range in the Royal court in Paris back in the day ?

    13th is no disgrace tbh.
She's running practically individually against teams. i mean the top 4 consisted of 2 chinese and 2 russians for a long time.

wasnt it established back in the 1800s when the olympics began?

They modernised it a little, they dropped the peasants as moving targets for the shooting part.

I'm gutted for Rob Heffernan, its not the first time he's finished 4th in a major race.
