Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It was built to be able to be disassembled.

West Ham for instance, dont need an 80,000 seater stadium or the costs associated with running one.

I know but it just seems like such a waste

I know but it just seems like such a waste

It costs a lot of money to use an 80,000 seater stadium that only ever sees 40-50,000 people.

Doesnt Croke park only start making profit if theres 40k+ in it or somesuch?

BBC3 news you cannot be serious. "And finally, so where did Usain Bolt end up last night? Clubbing in London!"

am so what? How is that news? Where did Yohan Blake end up last night? Luke Campbell? ANyone else who won gold yesterday? Bolt is a legend yes but I mean come on...

and then he fell. not so cool. :)

Is this just a straight race or timed? Doesnt look like a huge amount of places to pass.
    Yeah, he touched a wheel.

It's a straight race. The start is pretty important to get ahead. Downhill is usually timed.

I hope Schurter wins this race - he deserves it!

Just started to eye up my viewing for the Paralympics. Hopefully off work for the opening ceremony and then the first four days of it, then maybe a couple of the remaining ones.

With most sports spanning at least half of the 10 to 11 days of events there should be plenty to see.

    SPRINT FINISH!!!!

Lol. Chris Boardman and his fellow commentator weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of riding a full susser or a hardtail on this course, coming to the conclusion that a hardtail is better. Then what happens, the only guy riding a full susser wins the thing.

    :D

    Still a great race though.

Channel 4 and setanta are covering it. I think Channel 4 are launching their red button service for it.

Thats 29 Golds for Team GB, 64 medals in total. More than what was hoped for, hopefully the funding continues, more people take up the sports, and the progress continues for future Olympics and not just a result due to Home Games.

Hopefully Team Ireland can also build from what was in my own opinion was actully a good games for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

What did I miss while flicking to and from the basketball? What are the spanish giving out about and the US not involving themselves in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Are RTE showing vollyball thats over a while ago while the basketball final is on and theres an Irish athlete in the pentathlon? Jesus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

Just found this re Team Ireland.

    Medals per sport
    Sport Gold Silver Bronze Total
    Athletics 4 2 0 6
    Boxing 1 4 7 12
    Sailing 0 1 0 1
    Swimming 3 0 1 4
    Total 8 7 8 23

    Year Gold Silver Bronze Total
    1928 1 0 0 1
    1932 2 0 0 2
    1952 0 1 0 1
    1956 1 1 3 5
    1964 0 0 1 1
    1980 0 1 1 2
    1984 0 1 0 1
    1992 1 1 0 2
    1996 3 0 1 4
    2000 0 1 0 1
    2008 0 1 2 3
    Total 8 7 8 23

    (not including this year)

Was discussed at by a few us us earlier today, but lets hopefully not forget how close some of our other athletes came in outer disaplines, get the talent scouts, put the investment, and the same attitude to other sports that we have for the boxing, and we could have better results to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

Oooooooo. The Italian team has put in an appeal to the result of the fight. A new set of judges will have to watch the whole fight again by the sounds of things.

Hold that thought on 29 golds for Team GB for about 10 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,670 ✭✭✭Rascasse

What is this nonsense? The Italians have appealed the scoring in the boxing.

Khan reckons they will get new refs to watch it again on TV and score it again. Surely not? If results can be appealed how come some of the dodgy ones earlier in the comp weren't?

Flicked back to the boxing. I assume the Italians lodged a complaint for an appeal?

If so why didnt the guy that lost to the Chinese guy Zou (iirc) lodge one yesterday? He was proper ripped off imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,670 ✭✭✭Rascasse

    Apparently there were appeals earlier.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19212567

The Italian was dying in the final round. Hardly surprising the Joshua turned it around. Will be a shame (and possibly a riot) if they overturn the decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

Watching the equestarian part of the modern penthalon. The last 3 riders have fallen off their horses!

"Eyebrows were first raised last Wednesday when Azerbaijan fought Japan.

The Azeri bantamweight Magomed Abdulhamidov won the match despite going down six times in the final round.

After an appeal by Japan the decision was overturned. The boxer from Azerbaijan was out, the Japanese fighter reinstated and the referee was on the next plane home to Turkmenistan. "

How did I miss that fight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,969 ✭✭✭✭alchemist33

USA only one point up at half time in the basketball.

I wonder if the new judges overturn the result can GB appeal and get yet another 5 new judges to score it.

Edit: Appeal rejected according to twitter. Joshua keeps gold.

There you are lads. It's been done twice now and the result stands. Won it fair and square.

Whatever about that fight, savon should have won the first one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Beefy78

team GB are really raking in the medals eh?
    unlike China. NOT!

    LOL

    Yeah I'd say so

Just got back to Dublin after genuinely one of the best weeks of my life. The Olympics are amazing (although 29 golds help). I'm definitely going to make the effort to go to Rio in four years.
