Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is pretty rousing stuff!!! Forget Russel Crowe at the start of Gladiator. Eddie Butler in East London is far better!

I think I've learnt the breast stroke but they used to call it the frog as I was young at the time.
I really enjoyed watching the swimming and it was the only sport where I looked at it and thought it'd be good to do that.

I think I have okay technique or so people say. I need to work on the breast stroke and butterfly I rarely ever do them but I would be able to with a bit of practice. I doing the butterfly in the swimming pool when you're on your own though. I don't think it's too late to get into it.

Only thing I dont get is, and thought about this as well during the swimming events in the first week. When I done swimming as a kid and teenager, we were taught how to race dive properly into the pool, but rather than in the 6 foot end, we were taken to the 3 foot end, meaning we really had to concentrate and not hit our face of the bottom. But watching the montage, the swimmers go 3 to 4 foot plus under the surface.

    Was our instructer just crazy?

There's a reason why we don't win any medals in aquatic events

Good idea. Swimmers are less likely to stress out over their performance when they're worrying about cracking their skull off the floor.

The one I went to had a shallow pool the kids pool where you'd stand and it'd be up to your hips or slightly higher I was quite tall though. But next time when my school went to swimming lessons I already knew how to swim and was in the other shallow pool which is deeper and has a deep end. I always thought you'd drown if you jumped into a deep pool which is why I didn't continue to swim either. It looks great now and I know that can't happen.

This show on BBC is epic. Reminds me how much I'll miss the games.

And what I'd give for Eddie Butler's voice :D
He has a sort of Morgan Freeman/Richard Burton voice. It just resonates.

So Ben Anslie is carrying the Flag for Team GB. Any ideas who is carrying the flag for Ireland. Would like to see Robert Heffernan or Annalise Murphy just for their dedication and getting so close.

Ainslie was announced a day or two back. Looks like Kath Grainger (the rower) might be getting roped in somehow; that should get the organisers having kittens!

This was in London. Although to be fair, GB only got one medal in the pool as well.

    Edit. Another montage from Eddie.

Darren O'Neill, the boxer is carrying our flag. Anyone feel boxing has had enough exposure? I agree, Robert Heffernan or Annalise Murphy would've been good choices.

Whilst I was born in England, have never considered my self British, listed my nationality as English on any paper work until I got my Irish passport, and when asked for country of Birth, I list it as England. But after the last two weeks, at this moment feel immensely proud to come from Britian.

    Still English/Irish though.

    ;)

Heffernan put in an amazing performance, beat the irish record by over eight minutes. For me, I enjoyed his performance all much as Katie's.
