Had a good burger in Balfe's (Westbury hotel) at the weekend. Its about €17 but its cooked medium (they wouldn't do rare) and the chips are about as good as you can get anywhere as well. Best burger I've had in Dublin outside McDonalds but I wouldn't compare the two as they are totally different types of burgers.

I'm always disappointed in BK and McD's on the rare occasion I get them. They are thrown together and feckin tiny and I often think if they were actually like the picture in their ads they might be a bit more palatable.

I'm only posting this for information, got a voucher a few months back and had the #Mexican, to be honest, would have been peeved to have paid full whack for it but worth a once-off...though I'm tempted about this months.

Recently had a burger in South William Bar, 5er for a beef/chicken/venison burger with chips between 12 and 1 and only 8 full price outside those hours. Really tasty burger, great chips and they make all ingredients themselves. I think it's my favourite burger after Bunsen.

went back to Bunsen and was let down again. They could do with seasoning the meat full stop, their patties are really bland. The cheese is disappears - how much can it cost for some regular american cheese? And then there's the gluey bun modeled on the american style potato roll but poorly executed.
Was going to try wowburger but the setting is far from ideal for eating.
Beeftro is next on the list.

I think it's more to do with the fact it's in a smoking area for a pub

I reckon if you made it yourself and ate it straight away they would be great. They tend to be thrown together, so bits are falling out and then they're wrapped up in paper to keep warm and left for a while, doesn't make for a great burger.
Still, handy option in some circumstances.

I dont know what an 'american style potato roll is' but the buns in Bunsen are brioche, as they should be.

They are definitely not brioche (at least not what I consider to be brioche, way to squidgy and the guy who owns the place said himself he "drew inspiration from places like Shake Shack" which serve potato rolls. The bunsen ones are similar, not to my taste as they have an underbaked taste and texture.
Lucinda O Sullivan also didn't care for the buns as she thought "The bread was damp and left thumb-prints".
Just don't rate this place at all even by lowly Irish standards.

Which of the US joints do you think is the best? I think Bunsen stands up well to the dirtyburgers in Five Guys, In'n'out & Shake Shack
