Try wrapping a hot water bottle and ticking clock in the blanket, it imitates the sound of the mother's heart beat/her heat. Maybe put a couple of teddies for him to cuddle with in the bed, and of course, post pictures of the pup here :D

Nothing you can do but tough it out. Ignore his cries, there are times when he has to be alone.

Get yourself a crate for him, it can be his space with his bed. (get the size that would suit him when he's full size) If you go to him every time he cries you're giving in to him and he will expect you to be there all the time. You'll probably end up with a dog with separation anxiety if he gets overly attached to you so you need to tough it out and make sure you don't give in to his cries all the time. Plus if you soothe him every time he whines, he will continue to do it as he thinks it's the right thing to do as it gets him attention no matter what the situation is.

Bedtime is especially important, he needs to settle into his new home without his mother and siblings and also he needs to learn that bedtime is separate time, so you go to bed and so does he. You'll need to get up in the night to bring him to the toilet but then you need to put him back to bed. Don't give in and bring him into the bedroom because you will never get him out! He'll soon get used to it. A hot water bottle and a ticking clock are good suggestions but also a radio left on low can be soothing for a lonely puppy. Also if you get into the habit of giving him a little treat before bedtime it will make the routine so much easier. Mine jump into their beds when they know it's bedtime as they know their treat is coming. When he associates that he is getting something nice going to bed he should go with ease.

Take him to bed with you...it's great to have a little furry pal
    in the bed with you.

Aw he's gorgeous! Apart from the suggestions already just give him time, in a couple of days he'll settle down with his new family!

How did a pup of that size and age 'go missing' exactly?

keep a good eye on him especially as he probably hasnt had all his vacinations and if he was missing outside he could have picked up anything :(
