Is there a purge of Centra and Spar franchisees and/or franchisers going on this summer? Spar in Cabra is now gone, to be replaced by a Centra. Although it's not clear if the franchisee is the same as the franchisee never had the courage to put his surname on the front of his Spar. Centra in Phibsboro is now Daybreak, and the franchisee has also changed (according to his sign). That's just in that small area of Dublin.

Both shops were ridiculously expensive with Spar on the Cabra Road criminally so. It defies belief that they were allowed operate under those brand names for so long.

Daybreak is apparently yet another retail brand owned by the omnipresent Musgrave group which owns the Centra, Super Valu, Superquinn, Mace and Londis brands.

Mace is actually part of the BWG Foods group along with the Spar brand afaik.

It's coming up on the Musgrave website here.

No. Musgraves own the Franchsie rights for Mace in Northern Ireland, and for Londis in the UK, not in Ireland.
