Thanks for mentioning it, notice the retrograde motion (towards the west), over Belarus, Poland, Ukraine ... this helps to keep the warm ridge further west locked into place so that the developing storm southwest of Ireland has nowhere to go but due north (on Wednesday).

I love the curl that storm has! It looks like butter icing or something!! Its truely amazing what nature can do itsn't.
Does anyone know what the pressure is at the centre of that baby? I am not sure I am looking at the right thing?

Low of 993 hPa on the 06z analysis but the system is occluding rapidly and filling. This low originated over the Black Sea but became quite tightly packed as it encountered rising pressure from the north.

Stupid question but where did this storm originate from? Surely to get this strength it would need to have built over open water for a period of time?
