Tonsillectomy for nearly 3 year old

    Hi guys
    My little man who will be 3 in October has to have his tonsils out ASAP. He suffers terribly with his throat and this has affected his speech, sleep and eating habits.
    Has anybody any experience of their young child having this done? Silly me googled it and seen some horrible stories of kids dying from bleeding after :(:( I'm now scared sh1tless something will happen to him.

    Have they scheduled the surgery?
    I have only heard good things about the after effects:)

    Find out what method they use. There are a few. The best I'm aware of are the harmonic scalpel method & thermal welding method. They reduce risk of bleeding and post-op pain/discomfort. I don't think thermal welding is available here though.

    Overall, regardless of methodology, it's quite a safe routine procedure with few likely complications.

    I need a tonsillectomy as well & have researched it quite a bit. I have actually needed it for over 15 years. But, since I'm susceptible to anesthesia awareness, I've opted to live with the issues rather than risk a general anesthetic.

    Only brought him this morning but the doctor said it'll be sooner rather than later. He also said I should see a big improvement in his eating because at the moment he lives on yogurts and custard.

    I have heard the older you get the more serious the op is. I had mine out at 8 but started bleeding heavily a week later. This probably has me more concerned too. He said the op itself will only take 10 minutes .

    My little girl got them taken out at the same age, Its nothing to worry about, simple surgery really.

    They brought her in, when they were ready gave her drops into her mouth to make her sleepy, out pretty quick and then kept overnight just incase.

    Hard to get any words out and not much eating for about a week, but after that everything was back to normal.

    Dont be worrying

    My gp sent my lad to the ent hoping to get his tonsils removed because they are massive.

    The ent refused, he said they ate the biggest he has ever seen ( his seen a number if GPS and all say the same) the ent said he will only remove my son's tonsils if he gets tonsilitis mire than 15 times over 3 years. Or if they swell and block off his airways which is libel to happen because even non infected they squeeze against the uvula.

    I had mine out at 15 I was grand after a day, my dad has his out at 24 and was sick for a week

    Yea my lads are huge too and needs his ears drained too. He has been on 10 antibiotics the past 12 months and prob another 10 the year before, it's just not right:( The specialist( what is a throat specialist called btw?) said straight away lets take them out. I was relieved but am nervous about the op but thanks guys am a bit more reassured now :)

    They wanted to take them out next week but this wasn't suitable so he'll be going in for 2 nights in October just a few days after his 3rd birthday so at least he'll be able to have his party:D
