Still cost 11 million less than Carroll.

    Really ?!

    RVP
    £180,000 x 208 = £37,440,000 + £24,000,000 = £61.4mil

    AC
    £80,000 x 208 = £16,640,000 + £35,000,000 = £51.6 mil

At the end of their current 4yr contracts:

Andy Carroll will be 25 years old
    R. Van Persie will be 33 years old

Really is retarded to leave out wages .

Dont forget scoring bonuses, RVP will be costing more in those as well.

    A lot more.

    :-)

Rvp will prob actually score some goals though unlike Bandy Andy.

Is it a 4 year deal? I can also only assume you are speculating on the wages?

Also, has the transfer fee been made public yet even?

    Take what you want from it my point simply was ;

1.) it's retarded to say player X was dearer than player Y and not factor in wages.

2.) Andy Carroll was not dearer than RVP.

    That's all .

Arsenal fan here guys. Can't say I'm thrilled with this I have to say. Well done on getting RVP. Him and Rooney are going to be a lethel combo together. I'm looking forward to seeing them both together. Hope he doesn't score against us! ;)

You or anyone else on this thread have no idea how much RVP will be on per week.

Andy Carroll's transfer fee was more than RVP .

Give Rafael number 2 and Rvp 21 till either Giggs retires or Berba leaves .

On 15th of August 2011, Cesc fabregas completed the switch to Barca.

On 15th of August 2012, RVP leaves for Man United!

It will be interesting to see how Rooney reacts to not being the No 1 striker, it could affect him. He has a big ego.

Carrick has to play. That centre mid is so exposed

It is exposed, but not much more than what we started off last season with.

Cleverley and Ando could not have been any more exposed imo. Wasn't there some stat about De Gea having more shots to save in the first 5 games than any other keeper in the league?

And yes, I would probably have Carrick in there if I was thinking a bit more rationally with the RVP news. Cleverley does excite me.

This is all assuming Carroll will see out his four year contract at Liverpool. Clearly, he won't. Try again.

    :D

He was offered £140k a week and £5mil loyalty bonus at Arsenal (like what Henry got)

So I think it's safe to say he is getting £180k + per week .

Currently he is though, if the Van Persie fee is as low as 15mil up front, and you have no idea how long the contract is for or how much its worth then you can hardly say he is the more expensive signing just yet?

Its a pointless one anyway tbh, Carroll was not a proven world class striker, Van Persie is and you would expect him to be costing more in terms of an overall deal.

If Van Persie signs a 4 year deal he may still actually come out of this as being a cheaper transfer funnily enough, almost guaranteed if it is only a 3 year one

Hmmm I wonder who they wished they'd signed. Carroll or RVP.

    I know who I'd pick.

Yeah thats the point. Start of last season we had huge gaping holes. Cant be doing that again and playing combos of Ando/Clev/Kag in centre mid will lead to that again

Not sure you understand what the word safe means.

The words you were probably looking for were probably, its utter speculation, rather than safe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,762 ✭✭✭bmcc10

Just on the City site there to see what there opinion was there actually having a laugh about his wages not the fee like really a club that still has Bridge, Santa Cruz, Adebyor and what ever other dead weight floating around there squad bit stupid i thought.

Bebe plays on the wing, so hes going to play the exact amount of games he was before Van Persie was signed...

Just want to see how Fergie puts his first XI together now.

Rooney10's suggested formation is a good guess but think Fergie would pick Carrick over Cleverly if he had to so the back four would have a bit of protection. Kagawa is a certain starter for me, only question is where and that could well be beside Carrick.

    DDG
    ---Rafael
    Rio
    Vidic----Evra
    --Valencia--Kagawa--Carrick--Nani
    Rooney--Van Persie

Welbeck will inevitably see less game time this season too.

The thing is though, you (none of us) actually know the cost of the Van Persie deal if it does go through so you can't try to argue from that point of view just yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,240 ✭✭✭ceegee

Any chance we could switch to 3 at the back? Smalling Jones and Evans can all play at FB and CB so should be comfortable enough either side of Vidic/Rio. Something like:

    DDG
    Smalling Vidic Evans
    Raf/Val Evra/Nani

    Clev Carrick Kag

    Rooney RVP

Depending on opposition you could go with more attacking or defensive players at wingback. Or play Val and Evra giving you an easy switch back to 442

Brilliant news to hear about RVP. We will have an umatched attacking threat from midfield and up front next season which will make great viewing and as everyone knows goals win games. The only worry I have about signing him is his injury history and after having 2 serius problems with his ankles in the past you would worry that it would flare up again and sideline him for an extended period of time but by God when fit he is world class. A front 6 of Kagawa, Nani, Scholes, Carrick and RVP and Rooney will put the ****s into any opposition and would even give the likes of Real Madrid and Barca a run for their money

I'm not sure van persie is going play up top and no where else, Rooney was shifted around a few positions, we didn't see the best of Rooney with Ronaldo around and I don't think it will suit him now either, well hopefully anyway.

Its so nice for one of these "transfer saga's of the summer" to finally go our way. Ronaldo to Madrid, Tevez to City and the lack of any activity with Sneijder last summer wore me out with the tedium of the same story everyday in the paper with an altered headline. I genuinely feel sorry for Arsenal fans this evening.

On the other hand, RVP to United!!!!!!! :D:D:D

Glad to hear he's going to United but it will be his fitness that determines whether this is a good deal or not. I suppose at United they can safeguard him more than maybe Arsenal could.
