You used a high value soldier, who specialises in long range stand off attacks, and can't carry a decent close range weapon, into a CQB situation as a point man?

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear.

Because of the layout of the map, and my entire team having already moved/shot - it was a viable approach imo considering that i thought the muton was the last man standing..

I dont have the thingiemajig that gives you a readout of what aliens and how many of each are at what location yet so yeah.. viable method gets XCOM punishment.

Are there mod tools released? Havent played in a while, lost interest fairly quick :-[

There's no mods as in adding extra content or changing the game very extensively. But there are mods about to change the game values (i.e damages of weapons, alien stats, funding, bases etc).

well i was avoiding this thread as i had xcom in my back log. i started playing it yesterday and omfg how i love it. in a way it makes me sad, because they pulled it off with xcom, but they completely made tits of Jagged alliance :(.

anyway, i started on normal difficulty and iron man mode. I dont know if people will agree with me on this, but this game should be played only in iron man mode!
yeah, i know, wait untill i will lose my leveled up guy etc... well i did :D. the minute i renamed heavy russian fella with my name he died horribly in the next mission! :D he was my best troop and after that mission i had half of squad wounded. i still love it and love it even more after it! :D
This is the reason i try to get at least one rookie in to my squad composition and trying them to get some skills. i dont want to put all my eggs in to one basket and get a whole squad wiped out in one unlucky mission and start from a scratch with rookies.

    Well, called it a night.

Got few at highest rank. got my first plazma rifle too. Doing really not bad. Got A on last council meeting too. **** loads of satellites up and don't have any countries higher then level 3 of panic. I did lost India funding very early in game, but I am grand so far.
Only had 2 loses, if not counting in the tutorial ones. Pretty sure those had to die. So far very easy. Though capturing bastards can be quite dodgy. I had twice fail to shock at 80%!!! Fecking unlucky!
Unless there will be some Armageddon soon I can't see myself having problems. I know one thing fr sure: I will get all dlcs and play on harder modes in the future!

I need to stop calling soldiers with my own name. It's like a fecking death mark lol. Another heavy down. This time I got some sort of alien base/ship. Really damn unlucky 2 losses. Got my medic one shoted by crit and then got my main soldier wounded and he bleed out :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

So again, called a night. I finally finally coughs one of those crystal enemies for storyline lol. I already cough muttons and berserkes, but never had a chance to catch one of those freaks lol.

5/6 Titan armours. Almost all plasma weapons too. Though I lost one more high ranker today :(. Got 2 rookies in to one of the mission as I got feck all support left ( medics die like flies Ffs ) and on first turn they both got in to panic mode lol. Was sort of funny, until I ran in to berserker point blank! Had few: Oh ****.... Oh thx **** moment :D. Sniper like always put my ass out of the ****hole!

Calling your soldiers by the names of your friends is awese too. **** Alister!!!! No!!!! :D

I was just wondering. Did everyone already skipped on xcom? Does not look like much activity here. I really enjoying it and looking forward to some dlcs.

It is a quality game, but it's the type of game that when you've completed the campaign on a few difficulties and then ironman, it's replayability shortens. That's not to take away from it being a top notch 90+ % in any review. It is well earned.

I took a break from it for a a few weeks and settled right back in there for the new slingshot DLC. For me, XCOM is the kind of game that after completing it a few times, i'll move onto something else but always come back to it when I've nothing else to play. Each playthough is a little different, though the maps could do being a bit more random, or at the least more of them!

It's firaxis, so we can expect a good few dlcs and expansions! I just wish they would move on with it! :D

Though I do agree, they need a bit more variety for maps. I am not that far in ( I think ) and I have played **** loads of times on same maps. I do like how they mix in weather effects or crash landings etc.

Well today I should be going in to alien base as I got key made and all, but I need few extra missions as I got two rookies with me. I need dnamn support and medics!

You can't stun Chrysalids or Robotic Enemies, but you can upgrade the Stun Guns to take control of the drones for the missions.

Slightshot DLC is decent enough, the extra council missions are hard and if you choose the slingshot mission first you encounter Mutons, Chrysalids and Cyberdiscs way before you should.

You also get a Chinese soldier at the end of the first Slingshot council mission. He was a heavy for me but I don't know if it changes per playthrough. You also cannot customise him and it sucks because I hate the default heavy armor deco.

The additional soldier customizations that come with the DLC are great too, the new armor deco's improve on the default or the Elite Soldier pack ones.

ive always wondered by drones do they mean the small little robots that heal the bigger robots? or can you take over the floating circle grenade throwing bastards of doom

The small little guys that usually accompany the Cyberdisc. Never seen them heal though. Once I see a Cyberdisc, all my squads firepower focuses on taking it down as soon as possible.

    Can't they repair SHIV's?

Then again, anyone with an Arc thrower can repair said SHIV too if you've bought the upgrade in the foundry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭Cravez

Yeah true, I'v never tried to take control of them but I guess the benefit is having an extra thing on the battlefield that can at least do a small bit of damage. Maybe they can repair the SHIV's also?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,011 ✭✭✭sliabh

You can use them to scout ahead of your team, and when they are spotted enemies will target them first. A shot from a super-muton is better hitting a crappy drone than one of your guys.

So I lost my sniper, best soldier I had. He was the one from start. Was a stupid loss though, I have to keep an eye on reloads more carefully.
Anyway, I got 2 psi soldiers now. What do I do next? I got all possible satellites, all research avelable. 1k credits. 4 demons etc.

Just about to do the final mission on normal ironman.

Was going to get the Slingshot DLC to play it now but it there any point this late in the game or would I be better waiting until next playthrough? (Classic Ironman)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

    next playthrough i'd say
afaik it introduces slingshot missions through the game like the council missions

Go to Situation Room and you can see a list of exactly what you have to do next. One of the objectives is to upgrade your psi soldiers - you do this by using their abilities so you may have to do a mission or 2 more.

Also, make sure you've shot down a battleship. I thought I'd all research done and then I shot down a battleship and when I cleared it it opened up a couple more research options.

    That I didn't know.

I only had the one PSI soldier, a squaddie, after testing all my entire roster, so I'm forced to bring him on the last mission. I don't fancy mollycoddling him, so I think I'll just start the whole game again and play it properly with what I know now.

Don't think I'm ready for the tension of ironman though.

All main 6 squad soldiers are called by the names of my northern Irish friends. One heavy is obviously named as me. Plus "mk3" added to the name....

Quite funny as my all of them play x com or know it. So I come in on vent and go: " Ffs rob!!! You are not special! Wasted 10 days in psi chambers on you !!! Ffs man!!
Obviously rob goes: wtf are you on about?! Other who know what I am on about start giggling.
