Haven't given it a proper go yet. Only played 4 missions or so. Its worth mentioned that I'm hungover right now. Everything seems bad right now :pac: I was looking forward to this too much I think. I had unreasonable expectations. I'll give it a proper go tomrrow

it doesn't get really rolling properly til after you assault the alien base, i'd be surprised if you got that far and still thought it was dull, do it man, it's worth it!
I have no idea how to use mecs. The only strategy I can think of is to hide them around corners and use them to falcon punch aliens in the face. On any sort if open map I dunno, thin men just focus them down & wreck them in a single turn.

depends on the person playing, but at their maximum tier (MEC3 paladin) they are incredibly powerful, the weapons they haul around get better too, as does their aim and survivability, most of which is unlocked through research and the mini-bonuses from medals.

I believe there IS one change to the combat system in that its no longer a case of "in cover or not in cover" ... the amount of exposure to corners is supposed to now affect the chance to hit (so, no more the case where you are ever so slight off flanking and you clearly have the alien dead to rights, but he gets all the bonus from the full front coverage.

Am I right in that or did I dream it.

you could be right, the chance to hit and be hit in half or full cover seems a lot different than in enemy unknown. Higher than it previously was for sure. There's also an option secondwave "Aiming Angles" which gives a bonus to aim the closer you are to the flanked enemy, or the aliens are to your flanked soldier.

I saw an interview with one of the designers that depending on how close to flanking the enemy you are the more % chance you get for a hit. Playing the game without secondwave options it feels very much like the vanilla game. I have a feeling they scraped the idea and just added it as a second wave option. Sure if it was in the game already why would they add such an option as an extra modifier

yeah i think it was the lead designer Ananda Gupta that said that, i'm not sure though. The combat without secondwave options still feels different, and in a good way too.

For what it's worth and mostly to annoy ShadowHeart some more.

Went onto DLcompare earlier, found EW was cheapest G2A website (€16.99) - paid through paypal and had steam code within 5 minutes and game happily downloading. Back to shooting sectoids now

Lost 4/5 of my main squad on a mission just now, worst feeling in the world. Restarted to lose 3/4 on the first mission. The RNG gods have spoken, i shall give this game a rest for one day

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭Cravez

I'v completely forgotten how unforgiving the game is. If you feck up once you're entire campaign is compromised. E.g made the mistake of building a laboratory instead of a workshop for the extra Engineers and when I realised the consequence I couldn't build my Firestorm and EMP cannon, ensued was having to Ignore the large UFO's causing panic and losing council members :(

The pack seems interesting, but will likely wait till Steam sale.

I started today proper expansion game and love it so far. Playing Classic Iron man. Already had a few " AAAAAAAAAAA FFS" moments.

.....I thought it would be a stand-alone game with its own narritive. It is just the original with some extras tacked on. I am very disappointed

It was never marketed as such....I watched 2-3 videos from the game devs and they were quite open about it being the same campaign but with more elements and options.

    **** you X-com, just **** you.

After 4 tries I finally managed to get as far as getting my first mech. Got council mission and I had a feeling that it will end bad. Surely all of my squad got picked off one by one, wheres my squad assholes could not even hit at 80%. When I got one left I just quited.

I need a cup of tea, before I even start playing again. I already threw my keyboard. Thanks **** its old 5eu keyboard.

What difficulty are you playing on? I opted for normal with no save reloads. It's not hard if you have a lot of patience... which I don't have.

Did anybody get to the mission early on (pre-mech) where
you capture human who isn't part of your XCOM? Absolutely nothing has come of it since. They said they were going to interrogate him but that never happened. I feel like I missed something

Shadow said he started on Classic I think. As soon as you play on Classic, restrictions are lifted that are in Normal (e.g that technically all aliens can attack just one of your men if they wanted, in Normal this is restricted to 5 aliens). Aliens generally have more critical chances, better aim and more agression in Classic as well. I completed Classic Ironman by playing it safe most of the time - moving and overwatch and shoot unless I had a decent shot.

Yep was wondering that too. I think it was just a random mission to throw in the starting presence of Exalt for the game.

As Michael Cravez said I am playing Classic Ironman mode. As soon as I feel that I got a hang of it, I get bend over, lipstick on, nicely lubed up and then full on penetration.
It is so much dependant on luck so far. Luck not just in rolls, but Luck on maps you get. If you got an escort mission with lots of high roofing - good luck to you, I hope you brought enough lube.

I wish the luck in this game wasn't so heavily reliant on variance. You literally only get one shot per round. I'd prefer if you did three shots with each doing 1/3 of the damage so it would not be so detrimental when you miss that 90% shot and doing a "run and gun".

there is continuation of that, it just happens much later (
around the time you've got the hyperwave beacon running
    )- it's also pretty cool.

Tried playing today again. Did not broke my mouse or keyboard, but I will take a good few days off this game.

Its down plain unfair. I was doing quite okay and got to a misison where my soldiers could not hit a fecking side of a barn... I havent seen so many missed shots of 80%+++ in my life of X-com.
Is it me or expansion became even more unfair.

not hit a fecking side of a barn...
RPG is your friend - just blow up the barn : simples :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭Cravez

I missed a 99% chance shot from my MEC warrior against a floater that was only one tile away.

By the way, is it me or Snipers got nerfed to ground? their aim is worse or same as regular soldier now. They cant hit a fecking thing. I am not even puting them in to my squads anymore...

Iv found the aiming and shots iv gotten are relatively the same as Enemy Unknown. They could have nerfed it slightly considering they have added various things to boost Aim like medals, Gene manipulation etc

MEC's are awesome btw.. did this mission last night, the observatory map from EU with a covert op extraction vs exalt.
and yeah medals are great if you spec them the way you want for whatever class, just be aware that if you award a +defense in cover medal to a MEC trooper it gives no benefit as they cant use cover :D
