    Hi there,

I got the parts from hardwareversand.de very quickly. (see previous thread)

AMD FX-8120 Prozessor, Boxed, Sockel AM3+
    ASRock 970 Extreme4, AM3+, ATX
    8GB-Kit Corsair XMS3 PC3-12800U CL9 (exact ref is CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
    Super-Flower SF450P14XE Golden Green Pro 80plus gold
    Thermalright HR-02 Macho

Before to assemble everything, I test the mobo on table:
Mobo with CPU and cooler are assembled,
Memories in the white slots as advised in the doc
Power supply is connected with ATXPWR (24 pins), ATX 12V (8 pins),
    Zotac graphic card plugged,
    Monitor connected.

Power on failed with the error code on the display 0x4A (OEM post memory initialization codes).
I tried with only 1 stick in all the slots, after with the other one.
I got mainly 0x4A error code and some time 0x50 (Memory initialization error. Invalid memory type or incompatible memory speed) or 0x54 (Unspecified memory initialization error).

I checked on the CORSAIR web site the compatibility = OK.

I am stucked. What I did wrong if any?

    Any advice before contacting hardwareversand.

    Many thanks

Made sure it was seated properly? Check for any burn marks. (Very unlikely but step one really)

Is there a mem OK button?

When you say on the table - what was under it?

    Do you mean, sealed?
Mobo cardboard box was not sealed but well wrapped in the conductive bag (not sealed) and all accessories sealed in plastic bag. Looks like never opened.
Mobo looks great, nothing bad, as I can see!!

There are power on and reset buttons. I don't know what is a "mem OK button"

Mobo is on is cardboard box.

Cooler fan spins slowly when I power on.

Seated, not sealed. Seated = sitting in properly.

Do you know anyone that you could borrow DDR 3 from?

Sorry I should have been clearer - was the RAM seated properly initially. I've done this myself and it can fry the board.

I get the sense you haven't referred to your motherboard manual - I would just give it a quick glance over as a double check. There is sometimes a mem okay button near the DIMM Slots - I think it forces the system to use the memory fitted.

RAM was well seated, this is the first I checked and I tried only on stick after in all the slots. And the other one after.

As I wrote, I installed the sticks in the white slots at first. I have read the provided doc + downloaded pdf before started. See attachment.

There is not such button for memory.

Unfortunately I don't know someone with DDR3. Is there someone in Galway area?

I thing I will have to contact hardwareversand. I have not a clue what is the faulty.

Are these messages on screen or on an LED on the motherboard?

    Can you reach BIOS setup?

    Does the motherboard beep?

  • Registered Users Posts: 155 ✭✭Trompette

These error codes are in the 2 digits display on the mobo. This is Dr Debug.
There is no video so no BIOS access.
I'd guess the mobo stops before accessing the BIOS.
    I didn't connect a speaker so I don't know for the beep.

BTW Who knows the best way to contact hardwareversand in this case: email or through web site?

Take out the graphics card to see if the codes change.

I disconnected all connectors and cards,
reconnected only power supply 24 pins and 8 pins
1 memory stick in A2 "white slot for the first priority"
    No graphic card

    First start error 0x50
    reset
    error 0x4A

Changed the slot to white B2
    error 0x4A

BTW I got a ticket from hardwareversand (germain language!). I will see tomorrow with them.

Only thing that I can think of is 1.65V RAM which some boards don't like. It's usually more of a problem with Intel systems.

    Hi,

I got a replacement RAM, Corsair Vengeance ref CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R.
    Low voltage...

    Now it's running well.

    Thanks for your help

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

I hadn't heard of AMD boards not liking higher voltage RAM previously; I'll be sure to point it out to future buyers. I don't know why RAM sellers are bothering with it as it seems more of a nuisance. If you haven't sent the original RAM back, you could probably use it now since you can get to the BIOS settings and change the voltage.

It was a replacement... I don't have the previous.
But, when I ordered, I asked them if the RAM was compatible and they said yes:mad:

They might have just checked the compatibility list, the same as yourself. It's probably supposed to be compatible but Asrock or Corsair must have slipped up somewhere.
