Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Im thinking of doing a beauty course but it vtct qualification rather than cidesco. Does anyone know if these qualifications are recognised in ireland? Also do you think it would be harder to get a job with this qualification rather than cidesco??

    Hi There,
I myself am looking into a course except I have to choose between VTCT or ITEC.
I posted my question up on another board so am gonna to post the answer here for you hopefully it might help and yes VTCT is accepted in Ireland.

Itec is an internationally recognised qualification as mentioned earlier and is more indepth such as facial electrical treatments that arent covered in vtct level 2 courses. Vtct is also a qualification that is recognised in Europe, but not internationally yet.

The biggest difference is itec has a final practical and written exam and this is pass or fail!!! Vtct has no final exam but many mini formative exams both practical and written that can be resat up to three times if needed, so its less pressure- examples of work are collected to create a portfolio which is assessed in place of a final exam.

I know its not totally the same as your question but hope it helps none the less it also seems that ITEC is more favourable than VTCT.

ITEC is not the leading awarding body and is not the most recognised, it is newer than VTCT and would not have the highest standards of all awarding bodies. Fact! VTCT is recognised in over 100 countries, Itec is not (33 countries)! :)

All VTCT qualifications were aligned by the NQAI (National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) to the Irish National Framework of qualifications (NFQ) in 2009 and 2012. (www.nqai.ie/UK awards aligned to the framework)
Founded in 1962, VTCT is the largest specialist awarding organisation in the beauty, complementary therapy, sports therapy and hairdressing sectors. In fact VTCT coined the phrase ‘Beauty Therapy’, and VTCT’s founder invented much of the original equipment used in beauty therapy, such as the vacuum suction machine.

VTCT qualifications are endorsed by industry and employers worldwide and have longstanding partnerships with organisations such as Sterex, Carlton Professional, Pulsar, Steiner, Habia and many others.

VTCT is the awarding organisation for NVQs in the UK, which is a competence based model of assessment. This model of assessment is also used in all VTCT International qualifications.

VTCT ensure that all learners are assessed in a Realistic Salon Environment on real paying clients. All therapists/make-u p artists/ technicians are assessed on multiple occasions, covering a wide range of skills ensuring that they are 100% competent at certification. VTCT quality assures our college by sending an External Verifier, every six months to ensure we meet consistently high standards. VTCT awards over 100,000 qualifications every year all over the world and 57 of the 800 VTCT approved centres are based in Ireland.

VTCT qualifications in Ireland, other VTCT centres include Community Colleges and FAS centres. All VTCT qualifications are developed collaboratively with other awarding organisations (ITEC,CIBTAC, City and Guilds and SQA).All awarding organisations now share these standardised qualifications, the only difference between them is the assessment method (i.e. VTCT= continuous assessment plus external verification \ITEC and CIBTAC = final examination only)
VTCT is also leading the development of a European Standard for Beauty Salon Services, VTCT works alongside CIBTAC/BABTAC, Habia, AIT and other industry organisations on this project. The European Standard for Beauty Salons will be launched in 2014. (further information www.nsai.ie)
VTCT qualifications are recognised and approved by the government, all insurers and professional associations in the industry and employers.
