Need a new boot drive asap.

Hey everyone,

The past year has been hell for me in terms of hard-drives. I have had 4 hard-drives go bad and dye on me. (Considering all the drives are 5+ years old).

Anyway, I have been using a 2.5" DISK drive as my hard-drive for the past few months and now today, I can hear "faint" clicking.

So, I am looking for a 320GB-500GB 3.5" boot drive. I am willing to pay under €100 for it (inc delivered) and willing to buy from the UK.

If a SSD is not interesting - then I can recommend the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid - should fit in your price range - and can be found as a 750GB model too.

I'd be concerned if that many drives went on me - perhaps a deeper underlying fault? Maybe the PSU.

Go for an SSD - 128GB imo The samsung 830 would be ideal.

I seen those drives, but I don't know how good they are (In terms of build quality, failure rate etc)

If the price is decent for a SSD, then I might consider it

I only got a new PSU in on Friday (Corsair CX500) but it was making the noise before I installed the new PSU.

Will look for that Samsung.

The WD Blues are among the best consumer series harddrives out there. I have a couple of machines that use WD Blues and one WD Black and never had a button of problem with the drive, wish I could say the same of the samsung 1tb drive i bought a while back tho.
