A Limerick County Councillor is travelling to the United States this morning to celebrate the Croom Reunion in North Carolina.
Patrick C. Fitzgerald is the honorary guest at the annual gathering of families whose ancestors originated in Croom.
He'll take part in ten days of activities with business people in Kingston in an effort to create business links betwen both regions in the hope of attracting business to Croom.
Councillor Fitzgerald says it's a very important trip:



I hope this is not costing us any money, he should not be attending at a cost to the council. If the Croom reunion group want him there then they should be covering all costs. I am getting very tired out the same old line about creating business opportunities, which never materialise. Is this what our €100 household charge is being spent on?

Where in the article does it say the council are paying? Or are you just speculating that they are?

Lets hold out till we know more before flying of the handle. If they did fund it then it's a waste of money, however if it's being funded from the US then I don't see any issue.

Having said all that, if there's some tangible economic benefit for the region then any money spent on the trip would be money well spent...... The old saying, 'you have to spend money to make money' comes to mind.

sure wasn't it the same in 2011 when Cllr Ger Fahy went to Boston it to attract inward investment, Ive still to see or hear of the inward investment that he attracted, they should be accountable to the people for this, well is the local elections next year so people should ask them those questions.

Maybe we should start preparing a questionare on what they did about local issues over the last few years.. Could hand it to them at the door and ask them to go through it with you.

Ex. City Mayor Jimbo Long should go, his track record on bringing Chinese investment into Limerick is nearly as impressive as Cllr. Kevin Kiely's sucess at geting international bands to participate in the St. Patrick's Day parades. Keep clocking up the expenses, the gravy train is still rolling on.
