Dentists in Northern Ireland

Hello, I know there are about 100 posts and threads on this topic already, but all of the actual clinic names are "snipped" out, so I'd really appreciate it if anybody who has had dental work done in Northern Ireland and recommends a dentist to please private message me. :)

I'm getting bridges done or implants. I haven't decided, but it's for my lateral incisors (side front teeth) so I would like a very reputable dentist. I am a student though, so can't afford the quote I received at home in ROI for the work.

I received a few quotes from northern Irish dentists and it's significantly cheaper, but I'm not sure which dentist to choose.

So, does anybody have any recommendations for good dentists or dentists that are particularly accommodating to ROI patients?

    Private message me please. Thanks!!!

If you live close then fine, if not you will gt it as cheap closer to home if you look around. However quality should be your chief concern.

Groupon have a deal today ( finishes tomorrow)on implants half price it might work out for you if your close by

Ring them first, if it was me I would try get deal from them direct without groupon

Maybe somebody here has dealt with them before and could give you a yeah or nay on their work ( by pm)" I would take the groupon reviews with a pinch of salt

Which "city" is the groupon deal for? I can't find it! Thanks for letting me know. Not sure I'm comfortable getting such serious work done with a groupon voucher, but I'll look into it.

@fitzgeme, quality is my main concern. That's why I am looking for references. I actually cannot afford dental work here. The money isn't there. I have no other options, unfortunately.

You will find its No cheaper in ni, with time off and travel expense you may be out of pocket, research it yourself.

Dublin , I was curious so I rang them this morning they will deal direct with you, you pay a deposit and go for consult, if suitable for implant your deal kicks in if not deposit is returned. They are based in Ballsbridge.

However Fitzgeme is always making the valid point that quality and convenience should also be a deciding factor, so it would be interesting to hear if any other board users have used this practice

You are right to be wary about groupon, we booked a family holiday in lanzarote this year arrived at hotel only to be told no reservation. Groupon gave us the run around. Had to pay hotel in the end and guess what the price was the same!

Many years ago, whilst I was a student, I went to the Dublin Dental Hospital. I got a lot of work done there - i.e. 3 root canals, 2 crowns, 1 implant and a few fillings. The cost was minimal - under 2k in total. My point is, if you have time to do it, the Dental Hospital maybe the option for you. There is a waiting list but if you were able to get pally with a student in there, you might get in quicker.

I have done. It's considerably cheaper, in this particular case, including travel. Just trying to find out which dentists are most reputable.

Thanks, will look into that. :)

We opt to fly to the UK for dental work. We chose this after ridiculous estimates and wrong diagnosis by two independent local dentists. Yes, they were correct that a tooth needed to be removed but not for the reasons they stated and not under the general anaesthetic they were adamant about. Even with the cost of flight, transport and overnight stay, it still worked out better value and with no hacking about. Good luck with your choosing... even a day trip to the North to ask locals for their advice would be worthwhile.

Have you asked yourself why is so cheap? The answer is that years of NSH dentistry in NI have lead to a certain speed and quality levels becoming commonplace. Labs produce extremely cheap work to cater for the NSH and the clinics work fast to compensate. You can confirm this by looking at the specialist clinics in NI where that charge as much if not more than in the south.

You will get what you pay for, and seeing as the OP has research the pervious threads they will have seen that quality is the most important thing. You don't need bridges or implants you want them, and your better off waiting and getting a proper job that choosing the cheapest person and getting what you pay for. Make sure your compare like with like here, not all crowns are the same, not all implants are the same, a bad decision now will have long term consequences. Did you know that there are dentists who specialize in implants and crowns and bridges...look how much they charge and compare it to your quote and ask yourself what you would be getting.

OP be sure you are comparing like with like. I got bridgework done in Asia and while the quality and all were fine it turned out at roughly the same price as Ireland as the main cost was the gold part of it. He could have used a cheaper material at a third of the price though.

If it is the same quality, same service, same materials etc go for it but make sure you are buying what you think you are getting.

Your teeth darken over time. The 2 implants you get today will look whiter then the surrounding teeth in 5 years time. Have you considered how to handle that situation?

Be honest now. You said elsewhere that there is decay under the bridge and it has to be redone.

a Slovakia dentist I went to said that.
I had a check with my regular Irish dentist who I've been seeing for years and after taking xrays said it was fine.
as we have seen elsewhere in DI,dentists differ in opinion but as he knows my teeth I'll go with his opinion.

So the Slovakian dentists you praised on another thread wanted to replace your bridge?, thus doing complex, expensive and potentially harmful treatment un-necessarily when there was nothing wrong with it. Nice

different dentist !! we went for a check up and clean to one but my wife upon recommendation from a long time friend of hers went to another for the crown.
it would be helpful to ask a question before coming to conclusions

This is best dealt with by chosing a dentist who knows what s/he is doing.

Any recommendations for dentist in newry? i need a tooth crowned or replaced. Are they fine with me getting extracting down here and replacement up north?

    Depends on how you are replacing it;

    Denture, doesn't matter

    Bridge, doesn't matter

Implant, tooth removal limits your options as you may be suitable for an immediate placement of the implant. You also may not be suitable for this but best to let the implant surgeon decide.
Also, a regular extraction with no consideration for the eventual implant placement is usually more destructive of the site than a surgical extraction that aims to preserve bone for you implant...

    OS

I'm going to ring up tomorrow but just incase you know what would be the rough cost of an implant or bridge?

  • Registered Users Posts: 404 ✭✭paddyh117

For what it's worth, I rang a few places in Belfast when i needed an Implant and the one i got in Dublin was cheaper - and the service was excellent

I personally wouldn't bother travelling north - doesn't appear to be the savings there used to be
