Hi all, asking this question for my friend. They just got offered a job aberdeenshire working as a green keeper. The wages are offer are 6.50 per hour? Is this crazy low or about standard? Would you be able to live off that kind of money over there? They would be thinking of renting in aberdeen city centre with rental coming in about 500gpb per month.
Any idea or link where he could roughly work out take home pay?
    Thanks.

I think 6.50 per hour is the minimum wage. You can calculate the take home pay at http://listentotaxman.com. Does the 500 pounds per month rent include council tax? That might be an extra 75-100 pounds per month.

Its very low wages, Aberdeen is one of the most expensive citys in the UK, Rents are high because of the oil up there.

Living costs are about the same as Ireland.

If you can look at some where else you will be better off.

Aberdeen is very expensive due to the oil and gas industry so the wages are pretty awful to be honest, you'd struggle to survive on that sort of money.

You could survive on those wages in the north of England or even Glasgow. Aberdeen is a different story though. You also couldn't survive in the south east, especially London on those wages.
