    1. What is your budget? €1000, but willing to go higher, depends on price increase vs performance increase

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming, Internet, Porn

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes, should i wait for windows 8 or will there be an offer for a free upgrade on windows 7 like what was offered on vista when w7 was coming out?

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? Yes

5a. If yes, what size do you need? Not a massive one but decent all the same 22" i suppose?

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? KB & M, Speakers, I see a lot of builds w/o soundcards, are they superfluous these days?

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes, eventually. would this prevent an ivy-bridge build?

    8. How can you pay? Any

    9. When are you purchasing? 3-4 Wks maybe sooner.

As an aside, i see a lot of very expensive mainboards while any recommended on here usually come in under €100, what is the deal with the €200-€300 mainboards.

    First honest man here! :P

Use windows 8 RC (which is free) until the OS is released

Motherboards come with decent onboard sound - do you need an optical out?

Nope you just need decent cooling

    8. How can you pay? Any

Socket 2011 (not worth going for), E-Peens builds and long warranties.

not currently, although maybe in the future, will probably end up getting a decent headset at some stage.

    thanking you
think i will definitely get an SSD, did i read somewhere that for a bitfenix case i may need a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket, also do i need thermal compound or will i get everything i need in the box from hardwareversand, any special screwdrivers (torque head, star head, etc) needed?

You'll generally get the thermal paste with the cooler.

Just a crappy old philips will do - people say dont use the ones with magnetic heads but it can be a PITA if you dont have one handy. Dont get it near the HDD.

Yep you'll need brackets for the paperbox - €1 so shouldn't break the bank :D

The Mercs actually have screw holes at the base under the 3.5" bays to hold a 2.5" drive, so you can spend that €1 on a can of Dutch Gold, or 50 penny sweets, or some funky stickers to pimp out the case. These would be my preference.
