Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was wondering if anyone here could tell me what you do with your Irish classes to formally assess oral work with all year groups. In our school we don't really do this with classes other than sixth years who all get a mock oral.
    Thanks

We don't give one-to-one orals for any group other than 6th yrs. we dont do third year orals either as we adhere to ASTI directive not to.
However, to examine oral skills in other years I do the following:

1, First, second and third years give presentations in front of the class. They can use project scrap book or powerpoint or photostory. I have a grid and I mark them according to pronunciation, vocab, grammar and communication skills, Topics can be of their own choice. They can't do the same topic twice and have to increase complexity according to the year.

    2. Fifth year and TY students can present a topic on current affairs, favourite role-model. I often record them by camera and they can save them and listen/watch the clips. They are very nervous at first but get used to standing in front of people. They can also be creative with multi-media. I would do maybe one or two a day to avoid the boredom factor of them all doing it at the same time. Hope this is of use.

    thanks for that
That sounds like a very good idea. I was looking at some of the inspector reports and they always recommend formal examination of oral skills. I might do something similar.
    thanks again

My school brought in the optional exam for Junior Cert this year, I suppose it makes sense when 40% of the Leaving Cert exam is for the oral.

I think the teachers also did an oral assessment for the non exam classes this year for christmas tests to get them in on the idea that oral exams were normal and a part of the course.
