Any of you guys think Athletico can get a win tonight against Bilbao without Falcao iv a bit of an accumulator riding on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 542 ✭✭✭5T3PH3N

    Messi was well onside there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

There's no stopping Xavi Hernandez in this form, another cracking pass to Dani Alves, squares to Pedro, game over.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Poor Osasuna are getting screwed here. It wasn't a deliberate handball for the penalty and red, and Dani Alves was a good yard or 2 off for his assist to the third goal.

Diego Costa is a decent replacement, the San Mames is not a very happy place these days and Madrid hammered Bilbao in the Europa League final. I'd say it's a fairly good bet.

In Spain it's a yellow card. While Alves was offside, Osasuna got away with two before that.

Definitely. Bilbao are a mess. Diego Costa is not Falcao but he's a competent enough replacement to get the job done.

Linesman on the Osasuana goal having a nightmare. Has he actually got any decision right yet?

It's only a yellow if it's deemed intentional. Harsh call, imo.

The first was arguably intentional while the second potentially denies Adriano a goal. All in all I thought it quite fair.

Brilliant by David Villa for those two goals.

Ronaldo might as well just give up, he can't outdo the little man.

Messi has to one up Ronaldo doesnt he? :P

What a pass from Messi onto Villa

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,296 ✭✭✭RandolphEsq

Alves and Adriano are a liability at Barca. They are not professional at all. Alves is taking the p1ss and is sloppy, Adriano is wasteful. Typical Brazilian 'defenders'.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Xavi off. A near perfect performance from the maestro tonight.

  • Registered Users Posts: 287 ✭✭neddynono

He may not have scored (yet) but David villa has been great tonight

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

A performance typical of Barcelona this season. Xavi and Messi both magical, near unstoppable tonight.

More goals this calendar year, in fairness.

Bibao giving athleti a thumping, didnt see that coming

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Sorry to the lad who asked for the advice on betting. This is why I never bet.

Bilbao were terrific, easily their best performance of the season. Slick in possession, organised defensively, maintained a shape throughout.

Courtois performed miracles in the Madrid goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭carlop

Tiago and Emre starting had me nervous from the word go. I have an irrational dislike of Tiago, but I recognise he can be very elegant on the ball when given time. However, in a game where he is placed under more pressure, he buckles and goes missing, and that happened today.

Cebollita was awful and Cata Diaz is awful. Hopefully Miranda and Gabi coming back will steady the ship, along with Falcao in a couple of weeks. I also think Mario Surez should be starting.

The midweek action should be great.

3:0 in the end, lovely

Had a wee Tenner on Athletic, anytime goalscorer Aduriz. Never mind, a win is a win, and three points are three points ;)

I'll be flying through Spain with the option to stop for a day or two. That falls inbetween when Barca should be playing Mallorca. What are my chances of getting a ticket? Is it like Real Madrid where you can basically buy on the morning day/before with plenty available?

According to the Barca web site there is only limited tickets available but surely there is some tickets to be bought?

You will get a ticket on the day no problems.

Well worth it yes. If for no other reason the museum is incredible.

Bizarre team from Mourinho. Carvalho, Essien, Varane, Callejon all starting. Barca pretty much full strength. Could give Madrid a hiding if they want.

Park the bus, foul cynically and hit them on the counter attack time? :pac:

I don't even think he's trying to park the bus, he surely wouldn't have played all 4 of Ozil, Callejon, Cristiano and Benzema otherwise!

Essien looks to be at right back with Arbeloa left back.

I really don't understand that team from Mou. They're out of the league, so all they have to really focus on is the Copa and the CL.

The CL is still a couple of weeks away from starting up so it's not as if he needs to rest players for that. As I said, bizarre! It's almost as if he wants to get the sack.

Am I wrong in saying if he gets the sack he will get a few million and if he leaves by his own choice he gets nothing?

Sumptuous pass by Iniesta, Alba's "finish" . . . corner flag says hi.

When Barca get possession, they make RM look midtable. So focused!

    EDIT : So unlucky Xavi!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

Xavi very unlucky with his free kick. Hit the crossbar. Keeper beaten.
At the other end, Ronaldo ran that wee bit too fast for Benzema and ended up over running a decent cross.

    Thinking the same myself,

Some great football on show, love these games, the only bad thing is the constant hounding of the ref and playacting.

Crude way to perform a vasectomy..

Is Arbeloa just playing to clip the heels of every Barcelona player?

I think there's quite a few of the Madrid players playing that. It makes sense too. If the foul is missed by the ref, they either win possession or slow momentum and if the foul is counted they slow momentum.

I saw a stat before half time that was 10 fouls for RM to the single foul Barca made - crazy! Smart and effective, but crazy.
