Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just realised there lately I would be completely screwed without the internet. Depend on it for everything now nearly, anyone else reckon we've become a bit over dependant on it at the expense of living or has it actually improved ur standard of living ten fold

I'd be alright. I've got books and my Playstation 2, and I've download a couple of gigs of porn. I'll survive.

I thought this was about that awful Sandra Bullock film for a minute.

It hasn't changed anything in a substantial manner except to make everything more convenient. It does waste a massive amount of time, procrastinators paradise. We'd all be better off tbh.

Its amazing alright, youtube is a wonder of the Earth.

It accompanies me while I am doing other things. I don't know if it is good, but I don't think I am dependent, I go off it every now and again.

Except to have completely revolutionised business, entertainment, social lives..... almost everything in the world....... yeah, it hasn't changed anything!

Internet, yes I've heard of that. Its the inner netting they invented to line swim trunks. It provides a comforting snugness.

That's the crux of it. Don't highlight half a sentence, it's a bit lazy. Literature, encyclopedias, articles, books, shopping, music, video. All exist without the net. The net makes it all convenient and instantly consumable.

Dude, don't try to be a smartarse in the first part of your post and then proceed to not get what I was actually saying.

It's much MUCH more than just saying things are more convenient!

Say what you want to actually say instead of calling me a smartarse and get what I am saying.
Social media is useless and so are internet campaigns. Huge amounts of signatures on petitions to no avail because the internet is useless for anything important. How is that Kony guy doing? I haven't heard anything on Twitter in a while. I'm guessing they got him?
E-mail is also redundant if you want anything done right. You have to pick up pen and paper.
I use the net. I won't knock it but it hasn't revolutionized much. It's just made everything more accessible/faster and cheaper. It has stream lined processes that already existed, and that's not necessarily all good.
If people spent less time pissing about talking about say politics on a message board and more time becoming involved in the thing itself then that would be to the benefit of society. You wouldn't be able to Skype mates in Thailand though, which would be a real pain. :p

    Yeah yeah.

The Internet is much more than the Kony situation and ones like it.

Saying the internet hasn't changed things because encyclopedias etc. already existed is like saying Television didn't change anything because plays already existed. Or the telephone because two-way conversations already existed.

    Yeah yeah isn't saying much.
I'm not saying the internet hasn't changed things now am I? I haven't said that at all.

If you can't put forward how and why in a meaningful way outside of what I've already said, in that it has only made things more cheap/convenient/instant, then i really can't see your point.
You can even see the internet as being symptomatic in the downfall of investigative journalism.
The internet hasn't done the world any huge favours apart from being quite nifty itself. It homogenises society and culture.

Well, of course I can put it accross in a meaningful way, but I won't.

I mean, if you need someone to point out to you how the Internet has revolutionised the world then............. I can't remember. I'll Google it!

You can't make a simple argument worth a couple of paragraphs, on something that you see as clear cut and obvious, on a message board made for discussion.
I don't think you can put it across in a meaningful way. You're good with full stops though! ;)
