Excellent performance today from Celtic especially considering how draining Thrsday nights game must have been both mentally and physically. Apart from a scrappy start in the first 15 minutes of the second half I though we passed the ball very well and were constantly creating good chances. Our energy levels were very impressive. Hamilton when they did have the ball were never given any time and space and once the first goal went in it was always only going to be a question of how many. Another superb performance from Scott Brown who was fully deserving of the man of the match award.

Isn't it great to have the national media in your corner, supporting the only team in Scotland that isn't a complete joke

My favourite is the third point, about Inter not having lost a home european game in three years. Then pointing out that said loss was to those giants of european football, Hadjuk Split.

Glowing words from Bob Mancini at least

Looks like Guidetti will be starting up front tonight. I am hearing that Griffiths picked up a knock.

Worst refereeing performance I've seen in a long time.

    Gordon is an immense goalie.

    Guarins shot was unstoppable.

    Gutted to go out.

We were absolutely robbed by the red card decision, and what a f*cking abysmal decision it was. Neither were even fouls let along bookings. We were always going to need a bit of a break last night to get a result and we got the complete opposite. Armstrong should have had a penalty - the ref gave Inter fouls for much less everywhere else on the park and had it been them in the box he wouldn't have thought twice. Don't know why Guidetti spent the whole game diving when we weren't even being given legitimate frees.

What an absolute belter of a goal but is it any wonder he had that much space when we had to spend so much of the game trying to close down with 10 men.

All in all I think we can be proud of the result over two legs. Inter might be going through a bit of a bad spell but they still have hugely talented players in their squad, which cost far more than we could ever afford. We more than matched them and got put out by a world class strike and a referee who wasn't interested in seeing us progress.

We are being fined for the number of bookings we received.

If I was the club Id be issuing a letter of complaint against the referee. There is no way a neutral observing that match would think he was in any way fair.

Bureaucrats justifying their salary on that one..

I thought van Dijk's first was very harsh, the second was a definite yellow and both penalty decisions were correct. Strange that he didn't take context into it with the red though, as they usually do and as he did himself many other times. Gordon's yellow was a good one, not often you see the team going out 'wasting time'.

    Celtic are destroying Aberdeen here.

Guidetti has been useless since coming on, contrived to waste so many attacking opportunities

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Guidetti was rather wasteful, I think Griffiths would have scored a couple of those where Guidetti dallied on the ball

They never had the wind to challenge Celtic. They thought they did alright

What a second half that was from us today. Just superb. In the end considering the gilt edged chances we missed it easily have been 6 or 7 today. But 4-0 it is and message sent loud and clear. Really enjoyed that one today tremendously.

Based on what? Griffiths was rubbish yesterday. Stokes had a much better game than either when he came on - something I didn't think I'd say!

Hopefully we rest up the team on Weds ahead of the Dundee-fest. GMS and Armstrong are cup tied so they should start but would like Scepovic, Henderson, Forrest, Stokes etc playing along with games for Wakaso, O'Connell and maybe another youth player - was it Lindsay that got a game recently?

Hopefully Armstrong is fit enough to start Wednesday after having to go off in the second half yesterday. It doesn't sound like its anything serious but Wednesday may be too quick of a time frame for him to fully recover. We will have to wait and see.

It shouldn't matter much. We can afford to drop points (although if we do it will be cracked crest time in the media:rolleyes:)

If he is out, I'd like something like this:
    Gordon
    Fisher VVD OCOnnell Izzy
    Brown Henderson
    Forrest Stokes GMS
    Scepovic

Peach of a goal from St Johnstone

Lawwell put his foot in it today at the press conference

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Peach of a goal but give any pro footballers all that time and space and they'll hit seamer.

Just a off day, a reminder that Deila has still abit of work to do

  • Registered Users Posts: 464 ✭✭rosskind

Just a really lethargic performance all round, which is understandable. Quality not as deep as you'd hope - but is it ever??

Anyone heard any fee from this kit deal? Haven't seen anything mentioned.

Don't know how you can judge that, the team was barely rotated at all.

    It's a whopping £6m

    £6m?

It'll pay Lawwell's wages for the next 6 years or so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 974 ✭✭✭Intifada

The Nike deal was £5m. To be honest I was expecting the NB one to be like £10m or something. It's a fairly pathetic increase considering what much smaller clubs down south are getting, but I suppose when you look at the finances in the Scottish game it is pretty good work to get any sort of increase whatsoever.

Any source for the £6m figure? Not that I don't believe ye, just can't find anything on it.

The lack of rotation was kinda the point though. It'd have been ideal to have been able to rest some players after the busy period but we couldn't and the fatigue showed in the performance. GMS was wrecked after the shift he put in on Sunday, but it made sense to play him given his ineligibility for the next two games. Also, the lack of natural full backs hurt given how big a part they are to Deila's attack plus Wakaso was badly at fault for the corner.

Go watch Gary Mackay Steven during the corner. He does his job right, that shot doesnt hit the target if not he gets the ball before the St. J player. The lethargy was clearly evident throughout the game. If certain players were not giving a half assed effort, that shot never happens. Simple as that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 464 ✭✭rosskind

They were set up really weirdly for that corner; there were three men guarding the front post despite no St Johnstone players being there and GMS almost on the corner of the box, with no one on the edge in the centre. Just really strange. Defending set pieces has been a weakness for quite a while.

Farcical stuff from the linesman, VVD and a DU player off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

What is with referees and ruining matches??

2 red cards that shouldnt have been given and a case of mistaken identity aswell. What a brainfart

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,657 ✭✭✭Doctor Jimbob

    Well that was absolutely mental.

That red will be rescinded but Ciftci will get cited for what he did and rightly so

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,605 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

There was a red there for a kick at Scott Brown. But they sent off the wrong Utd player. Van Dijk shouldn't have been sent off at all. They just sent him off to keep it 10 v 10. Ridiculous.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭bobmalooka

No contact but if you leave the leg out in the box that can happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

The player that shouldnt be on the field has scored from the spot.

Definite peno, Stokes made a stupid challenge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Disgraceful decision by the ref, the DU player should have been booked for diving

I actually blame Izaguirre for his ridiculous pass when the ball was going out for a throw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭larrymiller

What were the red cards for?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,406 ✭✭✭Pompey Magnus

Hopefully Stokes will be off for the second half, contributed nothing positive in the first half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

What were the red cards for?

VVD & Butcher got themselves in a tangle with flailing legs and the linesman points out VVD & Paton. Ciftci should have been off for his kick in the face of Brown and Brown could have been in bother for his original tackle. The pitch is poor, the football on display is poor and the officials are poor. The Celtic fans have been in fine voice though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

What were the red cards for?

Basically two players got tangled in a tackle and it looked like they were both kicking out at each other as they tried to get up.

O' Neill & Commons reckon 4 red cards could have been handed out in the incident if you applied the letter of the law. They'd be correct but referee's should be allowed to use their common sense. But it seems that Craig Thompson and the linesmen are lacking in that department aswell!

3 yellows and red for Ciftci would have been what I'd given. What he did was malicious and violent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭larrymiller

Sounds like a pure bog of a match

    Proper Sunday Football! :D

    Red card and peno!!

Definite peno but not a red imo

    Good save tbh

    Such a crazy game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭Dempsey

Celtic's attacking play is all by the numbers stuff, no edge to it at all

Rankin needs to be subbed, doesnt know where he is

    EDIT

Referee is having an absolute nightmare.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭bobmalooka

    More sh!te refereeing

Edit: Great save after lovely lay off from Johansen
