Skyfall. Better than the last one. Definitely more bondy. But it seemed like two films mashed into one.
Jason Bourne films and home alone (the 2ND half)

    'The Wolfman'

Big budget update to the 1941 Universal/Lon Chaney classic starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. This is a film which you really have to try to like, unfortunately. There's a lot going for it, it's set in the 1800's, has moody atmosphere, the acting's suitably understated for the most part and it doesn't interfere with the film it's sired from...too much. But, the overall effect is one of "ho-hum". For a story about a beast that rips its victims to shreds, it's remarkably restraint. There are shots of gore and pieces of flesh, but they are so fleeting that they have little impact and the CGI werewolf is...well...CGI. There is, of course, a made up Benicio as well and Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London) is right at home with the special effects. But, it's the ZBrush created wolf man that lets it down. The wolf man of the title never feels like it's a tangible object. It displays it's animation way too easily and the effect of that is same as every other CGI laden film, it takes the viewer out of the piece.

Ironically, 'The Wolfman' is at it's best when there's no werewolf onscreen and there's some fun to be had in looking out for references to 'An American Werewolf in London'. The sets are very well realised, set the stage well and suit the whole tone. But, one cannot escape the feeling that what's on view is generated in a virtual world. The simple fact is that CGI is still in its infancy and will not reach any kind of maturity for at least another 20 years or so. The human eye can always tell when it's being fooled by a virtual creation.

'The Wolfman' could have been a great effort, but the lack any urgency in the proceedings and overuse of CGI let it down terribly. But, that said, it was semi-enjoyable, even if I did glance at the watch a couple of times.

Everything Or Nothing: The Untold Story Of James Bond: excellent doc about the Bond legacy, from Ian Fleming himself to the novels, the Broccolli/Salzman drama, the movies, McClory's attempt to make a rival Bond franchise by remaking Thunderball (which became Never Say Never Again).
Has interviews with all the Bonds save for Connery, who has distanced himself from the franchise, there are archive interviews with him though.
Its not a fluff piece by any means, has some pretty candid interviews from the major players in the franchise, Roger Moore is his usual funny self, George Lazenby gives a pretty honest account of why he failed as Bond.
Timothy Dalton talks about how he didnt want to emulate either Connery or Moore and how audiences didnt go for the darker tone of his movies (20 years before they lapped it up in Casino Royale) and how he was meant to get a third film but due to the legal wranglings it never happened. Brosnan goes into the whole Remington Steele thing (he was meant to be Bond before Dalton got the gig, it worked out in the end) and talks about how silly his movies got, (including pissing himself laughing at the parachuting away from a tsunami scene in Die Another Day). It goes right through the 23 movies and has some Skyfall stuff in there as well, well worth a watch if you've any interest in the Bond movies, it could do with being a little long, maybe 2hrs instead of 90 odd mins but worth a look.

"The Treaty" (1992) Made for TV movie.
This is the historically accurate one starring Brendan Gleeson as Michael Collins. Not a bang, bang action movie but instead lots of talking and negotiations but nonetheless very entertaining. Ian Bannen's portrayal of David Lloyd George steals the show as he builds up to the dramatic ultimatum to the Irish delegation ..."the train is at the station with a head of steam...." Worth watching for that scene alone! 9/10

I have started my 50 days Challenge of Christmas movies as there only 49 days to the back, I will be seeing from to Christmas are all Christmas them movies..

    I started yesterday with
    DAY 50

    Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)

I never seen this movie full before, I always seem to see bits of the movie, now I have seen the whole movie

This movie dose start of really Dark as Kid see a Santa killing his parents.

I really liked they we the back story for first half hour of him dealing with aftermath of killing and seeing how much he effect thought out the whole movie.

There the movie fast forward 10 years and now it 18 and working at store, still be affected by the past, as come once Christmas, it too much for be to handle and cranks.

The death scenes in this movie not too gory, there were some decent death scenes and the acting was decent from the whole cast for this kinda of movie

I enjoyed the whole movie and some fun moment in the movie may make you laugh a little more dark humor.

Over this was decent slasher movie, 7 out of 10

    Scrooge (1951)
There so many of these adaption of these movies, I felt like seeing one of the early one, I not sure if this was first movie or not, I know there was one made 1931, I can't see to find that anywhere.

Anyway I think this as to be one the oldest movie I have seen, I Know I have not seen anything before 50's.

This was a really good adaption of the movie, this movie was very well acted from Mr Scrooge he was outstanding.

When the first ghost pop up and screaming (My Dog barked at him). The echoing was bit a little odd, I sure that may creep some kids out, I am still a little puzzle its U.

The movie never got boring at all and it flowed really well and was really nice.

The were some sad moment in this movie, so might find a sad and the ending was really nice and get you the mood for Christmas

    8 out of 10

The Dog Who Saved Christmas (2009)
Basically this is Home Alone again but with Dog, this family want Guard dogs for Christmas and As husband goes to get this dogs, The dogs he see reminds of he own pet when it was a kid, however Suze Can not bark.

The most of the movie was really about when WILL Suze will be barking, they even trick Suze to see if he barks with a Fake Robber.

Then after movie get really predicable (I normal sad or teary when I find sad scenes in dogs movie) This movie did even not make feel bad for kids at all, I didn't feel that was were really connected to the dogs at.

There were some funny moment in the movie, I laugh at some scenes in this movie But I thought it would have been much more funny then it was.

The acting was really mixed from most the cast, I forgot her name in this movie, The Morgan her name in Sarbina the Teenage witch show , seem really bored in this movie, it like see didn't really wanted in this movie at all, all are lines felt like she forced then out.

The acting was pretty poor as even for Kids movie, I know kids won't notice but adults won't like it.

4 out of 10 (I Hope the sequel are better lol)

North By Northwest - slick, playful thriller from the Hitch. This is one of the last 'big' Hitchcock films I've gotten around to, and it's certainly a fascinating counterpoint to his more claustrophobic productions - a cross country chase full of great setpieces and a wicked sense of humour (I don't know why Cary Grant humming Singing in the Rain is so funny, but it is). The cropduster scene is most definitely a highlight - a masterpiece of suspense. Particularly impressed at the cinematography throughout, some very memorable images from the stylish Saul Bass opening sequence to the gorgeous wide angle shots employed throughout. The story can be ridiculous, and the film lacks the darker themes of some of the director's 'masterpieces' (surprising amount of sexual innuendo, mind, not least the final shot of a train entering a tunnel). The Mount Rushmore sequence shows its age too. Still, a terrific thriller that makes fine use out of its extended running time.

    Moonrise Kingdom

Offbeat rom-com that sounded like a run-of-the-mill lovey dovey story with light comedy thrown in. After watching the film it has left an impact on me. Imagine if Quentin Tarantino directed a children's film, this is probably what it would be like.

Loved every aspect of the film, from the emerging characters and simple yet charming plot. I wouldn't be surprised if it notched a couple of Oscars next year.

Why would it be like a Tarantino children's film?

:o I never looked at that.
All the reviews for it say it's set in whatever part of France, and I know Marion Cotillard is French, but none of them specifically say it's in French. Even the trailer I saw had no speaking in it at all. I bet more than a few people will get a surprise when they see it ;)

Reviews don't mention the language because it's completely irrelevant as to whether it's a good film or not. ;)

Of course, I'm not a subtitles snob or anything, I assumed the film was in French but I just never saw it mentioned anywhere.

"Eat the Peach" (1986) on promo DVD. Stephen Brennan and Eamon Morrissey are two unemployed pals who build a motorcycle 'Wall of Death'. The film is set in an unspecified border county but largely shot on Bord na Mona's bogs near Allenwood in County Kildare. The lunar landscape of the bogs adds a suitably surreal setting for this movie and it all comes together well. The cast includes Neil Tobin, Joe Lynch and even a very young Pat Kenny has a cameo role. 7/10 Scarce on DVD but worth tracking down a copy.

I felt that the directing style is in line in what he would/has done and gives off the same affect you get watching one of his trademark films.

Ruby Sparks Really enjoyed this, the premise sounded a little ridiculous so I was a little dubious beforehand but it completely absorbed me and I liked how it progressed from light and funny to a darker story.

The Shining I've seen this film loads of times but never on the big screen so couldn't miss it when I saw the Lighthouse was showing it. Even though Jack Nicholson is very OTT and Shelley Duval's trembling terror is a little irritating, it's still a great film, full of tension throughout.

Untouchable Apparently the highest grossing French film on record and I can see why. Funny and tender without being overly sentimental.

Saw all the above in the Lighthouse; just can't stop going there because it's such a pleasure; comfy seats, patrons who don't talk through the movie, no phone signal so no annoying ring tones, and of course good movies.

Saw some people on twitter complaining about the bar there. Think it was all during The Shining. People coming and going to get fresh drinks all the time, talking loudly, dropping drinks etc. Might have been a one off bad lot in that day.

Elena - initially, Andrey Zvyagintsev's film dons the guise of a familiar family drama: sedate and carefully composed. As it advances, it certainly still has familiar elements, but it evolves into something more complex and a bit stranger. Following the trials of an elderly couple and their respective children / grandchildren, Elena is a moral tale of sorts, although enhanced by a dark sense of humour. It's a pessimistic story, and Zvyaginstsev populates the film with stubborn, largely unlikable characters reflecting various facets of Russian society. The characters and situations are engaging, and a single repeated Philip Glass composition adds a sense of uneasiness and surrealism to affairs. A mostly smart, well-directed drama that has plenty of layers to work through but on the whole is surprisingly watchable and certainly not the most challenging of Russian arthouse productions ;).

Entertaining movie ,well worth a watch . Thomas Haden Church provided most the laughs and McConaughy is top notch.
The chicken drumstick scene is one you won't forget.
Family dysfunction to make Jeremy Kyle blush, but thanks to McConaughey’s oily power and Friedkin’s unflinching purpose it’s a compelling beast.

"A Private Function" (1984) - .50c newspaper promo DVD from a local charity shop. A slightly dark comedy about black market meat, unlicensed pigs and social climbing in an English village during the late 1940s. A stellar cast including Maggie Smith, Denholm Elliot, Michael Palin and Pete Postlethwaite carry off this very British comedy with style. Worth tracking down in your local charity shop! 7/10

That's disappointing to hear :( I haven't been there at very busy times so I hope that's not a regular occurrence. I'm not sure the bar is a great idea although it seems to work ok in the IFI.

Take Shelter, superb film. Michael Shannon is brilliant in it, the tension in this film is unbearable at times and the ever increasing sense of doom really sucked me in. Can't recommend it enough

    Haywire (2011)

An enjoyable, harmless action flick starring former MMA fighter Gina Carano, with supporting roles from Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas and Ewan McGregor. Good fight scenes throughout, plot is a bit slow and all over the place at times and there is some extensive footage of Dublin (in fact probably the best part of the whole movie is set in Dublin). Must say, while lacking in proper acting talent, there is something seductively sexy about Carano, and she sure knows how to stick up for herself. I fell in love!

Overall, far from Oscar material, but an enjoyable way to spend 80 minutes or so. 3/5

    Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
This as got to be the oldest movie, I have seen so far, I know for sure this is first movie that I have seen of the 40's.

I really enjoyed, I didn't think would like as not to keen on Black and White but over the last few years, I have been adjusting to them slowly.

This very good movie, while watching this movie you have really used all emotions for this movie.

I found this movie very entertaining and it never got boring at all, there were some really funny parts in this movie, that you laugh out loud.

There are some people in this movie that you can't stand, that annoys you a little, that is what is meant happen.

This is great family movie, (I did see 1994 version once before, I not seen for while, I how not aware that was second remake of this movie as it was already remade (1973), which I only just found out)

This movie is perfect Christmas Storymovie to watch with the whole family .
