I'd recommend Manor Village as well. Its a bit expensive and there's a lot of security but its great for first years mixing. The apartments are nice and there was always a session on somewhere if you wanted one. When I lived in Manor, like 10-15 students moved into Manor after Christmas cause they couldn't hack College Fields any longer.

Some of the best friends I made in college were people who lived in surrounding apartments in Manor. :) I'd recommend, despite the strict security.

Yeah I looked up some old threads there, doesn't seem to have the best reputation though..

Does anyone have a clue of the bus times from Manor to Cork Road Campus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,029 ✭✭✭SusieBlue

The buses are fairly regular, every 10-15 mins from what I remember. Its about a 20-25 minute walk on a straight road so its definitely walkable if you miss the bus/choose to walk instead :)

Thinking of going to WIT this September. Looking for accommodation near college st as my course will be there. I'll be coming down from Tipp on my own and will want to mix with first years, anyone recommend anywhere? I was looking at Manor Village but is it really worth it for the price they're asking for?

For 1st year I'd say yes. Its right next to college st. too. Very little difference between the price of Manor and riverwalk, and riverwalk is about a 15 min walk away from college st. Manor is great for making friends and mixing..When I was in 1st year, my best friends were people I met in Manor rather than people from my course. Great for socialising :)

Can I ask when did you pay a deposit for Manor village? I was thinking of paying the deposit at the end of May as I'm kind of worried places will fill quickly. What were the rooms like? :)

Pretty sure I didn't pay the deposit until I accepted my course, so that was mid august. If WIT is the only college your applying to, you could probably pay it now if you wanted but I got a room no bother in August, however I know loads of people that didn't so paying early is probably best.

Rooms were lovely, some were bigger than others depending on which room you are allocated. Definitely go for an en suite, its about €10 extra a week but soooo worth it! I lived with one guy and it was torture having to share the kitchen with him, he was filthy, so I can only imagine what his bathroom was like

They're stingy enough for giving back the deposit when you leave, they'll try to find any reason at all to fine you so my advice is to take pictures of every withstanding damage to the apartment when you move in (cracks in the wall, chipped paint etc.) and bring them to reception to get a member of staff to sign and date them, so that if they try to charge you for damage you can prove it was already there when you moved in :)

The rooms and apartments can be quite cold so try to pick yourself up an electric blanket over the summer sales for winter, trust me, you'll be glad you bought it!

    Hey,

I'm looking for a bit of advice, i'm heading to Waterford in Sept as a mature student (23yo female) and I just don't know where I should go, i've read the whole thread but still confused. Any recommendations, my budget would prob be 55/60e?

Also I won't know anyone down there so if there is anyone else in the same boat/round the same age that just wants to find house share or something then pm me! Female/male/gay/straight/messy/tidy I don't care, anyone who wants to have the craic but in a more relaxed over 21 kinda way. :p

    Any help greatly appreciated!

Hey. First off I'd recommend saying away from tempars. Nothing but trouble from there. Personally I'd recommend for a new student the apartments down by tesco pollberry. Not sure of the names of them. They have nice rooms and there cheap and close to the city center (and tesco). There the 1s opposite the cinemas over a pizza place. Also theres a great pub beside it called the mansion house. They do cheap lunchs that are delicious. Only downside its about a 20 minute walk from the Cork road campus and 5 min walk from college street campus. But there is a plenty of buses that run every 10 mins, I think.

Otherwise I'd recommend manor village or riverwalk. Not to sure about houses so I can't recommend anywhere for that. Reply to me if you need any more advice and goodluck.

Wow, I would've said the opposite for a 23 year old. Most 18 year olds starting off in college don't care about apartment/house quality so a lot live in places like Lismore Park (very old houses).

Those apartments above the pizza place you mentioned yes, they are private but they are horrible from being in 3 or 4 of them.

I haven't seen a house in below average quality in Templars Hall yet.

I'd have a look on Daft and check around. It will be hard to find a room for just one person though as most landlords want bookings of 3/4 depending on amount of rooms. No harm putting your name in though because there is bound to be houses with spare rooms come September.

Don't apply for a room through Waterford Lettings though because you'll be paying top $$ for something that shouldn't be top $$!!

It's not as bad an estate as people say. Just like everywhere that students are, Wednesdays are busy. Freshers week will be busy. Rag week will be busy.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Basically i'm not that fussy about the state of the gaff all i'm worried about is the price, the location (i'm lazy, short walk/bus route) and who i'll be living with, don't mean to be age-ist or anything but I just couldn't hack living with 18/19 yr olds, im auld and often suffer a 2 day hangover! haha

I've been going mad on daft, there's an alright place in Woodlawn Grove? but sure all I can do is ask these landlords if they'll take me on my own and if they already have people lined up, i suppose

In conclusion: Where them mature students at?? :)

I have a room close to the main campus and its not in Templar's hall!
Would suit a mature female student, I'm 34 and fingers crossed will be working & studying in September too.
Looking for someone who's neat and tidy and likes cats, as I have one!
If interest PM me for more info.
