Just to clarify, your intention on purchasing euro commemorative coins is solely for investment purposes, with the intention of them being worth significantly more in years to come for your children yes?

To answer your question mate, I don't know or even predict their values into the future. Some of the coins will not have a significant increase in their value for several decades at least. Maybe a century. (whatever times will be like then :))

On the other hands, some limited issues ones have current values several times their initial asking price by the central bank of Ireland.

I would advise you keep a close eye on upcoming coins for future years, and register with the central bank of ireland mailing list so can get easily notified.

For example, I'd expect something special in 2016 to celebrate the easter rising, etc. Pre-ordering in crucial in obtaining limited edition (small mintage) coins.

I am a coin collector myself, so I don't consider the coins future value that much. Mainly because I have no intention on ever selling them unless forced due to financial constraints.

your reasons for purchasing the coins are very valid mate.
Its good thinking on your part and I am fairly confident that they are wise purchases (or investments) for the future.
I am sure they will love to get something like a commemorative coin as a present. :)

The other thing you could do is buy them coins or sets from the year(s) they were born. From 2002 there's plenty of Irish stuff available, before that though it's a bit hit and miss, depends on the year. If you like this approach, tell us the years and we'll let you know what's available.

If you're looking at coins as an investment for 20 years time then there's many factors you'd need to consider as it's not a given that all coins will increase in value. Main factors would be supply, demand, how much you initially pay for them and future bullion prices.

Looks like it, they're not listed under available on the CB site any more. There was plenty of time for anyone to get as many golds as they wanted. I'm surprised they were available for that long TBH! But if you're stuck for some you could always ring and check if they have any left, you never know...
