I am building for a charity with very little money

Have built many times before, but last time was 4 years ago, so I am not up to date with specs and prices. Help appreciated :)

    1. What is your budget?
Low, low, low! Max €250 including shipping, preferably lower

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer?
    Basic office use: Office, browsing

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?
No, the charity can buy Windows cheaply

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? No

    8. How can you pay? Visa debit / bank transfer / cash

    9. When are you purchasing? Today, want delivery within 7 days from now - ish. Or bricks & mortar shop :)

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Can build myself :)

Found a £199 business PC on Amazon including Windows 7 Professional and shipping

I don't think I can build a PC for that budget including OS. So I just bought it.

Needed to be new (with warranty and invoice)

Second hand was not an option

The guy is a business so would have to provide you with both.

I'm just very dubious of a new machine at c€250 with Windows 7 Pro.

I suppose it is possible with an OEM license and very low end components. Just ensure the OS is genuine when you get it.

    £199.99 including shipping

Sure low specs, but that doesn't matter. Windows 7 Professional is clearly mentioned. Incredible price really...

And it's from Amazon themselves, with their excellent customer service and free shipping on returns should that be necessary :D

BTW any link to that shop selling refurb Dells on adverts?

I agree its a great price but I'm always of the notion that is it sounds to good to be true...

    Item|Price
    2GB Corsair ValueSelect PC3-10667U CL9|€11.49
    Seagate Barracuda 7200 250GB SATA 6GB's|€55.43
    HKC Case 4672GD, mATX, 420Watt|€31.09
    Samsung SH-222BB schwarz|€16.65
    ASRock H61M-HVS (B3), Sockel 1155, mATX|€40.94
    Intel Celeron G540 Box, LGA1155|€39.49
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€214.08

Thats retail rpicing so I guess it its possible - if its bought direct from Amazon they are known to be quite good if things go wrong so good find.

Build your own mATX rig with a G530, 4GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD and use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Open Office. Ubuntu runs fine even on 512mb of RAM and an ancient Pentium 4 Dell.

You could even drop down to 2GB of RAM if you needed to.

Windows 7 and Office installed. Legit? ;)

I wouldn't say strictly as he's likely using the original licenses which I don't believe should be transfered.

That said it remains to be seen of the other guy is on a level - I am simply advising caution.

If it is on a level the standard of component used is going to be pretty low if he's to make any money on the machine.

LOL, the good lady in the charity would have a heart attack if I gave her a PC like that :p

Those PCs came with XP originally. And no, licenses can't be legally transferred. He calls himself a shop? That's not a legitimate business. I bet once his consignment is gone, his shop will be gone too :)

Fair enough - as I say any deal that seems to good to be true usually is.

Even Linux Mint? Really, a €250 build with a full-fat windows 7 install can't go well!

    Why not?

2GB RAM might be an issue - I run a similar set up with 4GB and its okay for playing net flix movies but I wouldn't want to run any serious apps on it. Should be easily upgraded though - hopefully its just one DIMM

2GB is more than plenty for a bit of Word and browsing...

I'm not sure why you've posted here if you have all the answers.

    Good luck with it.

EUR384 shipping extra from Misco.ie :D Spec here

    2 (total) / 1 (free) x memory - DIMM 240-pin

€10 for another 2GB stick to upgrade it to 4GB (not that they need it)

This should be in bleedin' bargain alerts, so it should :D

I thought that I explained that in my original post? I haven't done any builds in the last few years and I am not up to date with current prices / cheap builds

My second post was just to let you all know that I've found a cheap & acceptable solution (so nobody would need to waste their time coming up with solutions)

My other posts are just replies to suggestions here...

Thanks for the posts everyone, problem solved, charity will get an excellent v alue for money budget PC, mods can close the thread if they want :)

Yep, the charity pays the same prices as the student rate :)

I saw that offer this afternoon, but it is for an upgrade

You must already own a license and have xp or vista installed on the PC

    Linky

As you can understand all software for the charity has to be 100% legit
