Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My daughter was working in Japan and bought an iphone there. When she decided to come home her contract was not up so she paid almost €500 to get out of the contract. however, on arriving home she finds that she cant use it here and when she rang the company (softbank) the informed her that "its not their policy to unlock phones" Apple wont help. what can she do??
She know she could get it unlocked but worries about updates and having to unlock it each time. any help would be appreciated.

The phone company needs to request an unlock from Apple, which she should be entitled to for paying off her contract. other than that you have to check the unlcoking thread at the top of the page, or iclarified.com

She contacted the provider in Japan but they said that it's not their 'policy' to unlock phones. Regardless if she paid it off or not. It's infuriating.

They are probably under no obligation to unlock phones.
Just jailbreak it and unlock it that way - and don't update the ios unless there is a jailbreak for the new version.
Tbh it doesn't have to be a hassle.

Read the unlock sticky in the forum and put your daughter's details there and peeps will help getting it unlocked.

If its an iPhone4 or 4S its highly unlikely you are going to be able to unlock via Jailbreak
Unless its on a really old firmware(< 4.2.1) or she's been preserving basebands(which she's obviously not), there is no software unlock.
Also Gevey sims are not working on the latest baseband either so it may be an expensive ipod unless there is a third party site like cutyoursim requesting official unlocks for softbank, but i'd be almost certain there is not
