    Hi All,

My wife and I have just gone sale agreed on a house in bishopstown Cork. We are just in the process of ringing around to get insurance quotes and can't get anyone to quote us. Axa, Aviva, Liberty, AA all said they won't quote for bishopstown / cork city because of subsidence etc. I am just wondering if any one else here has gotten a quote for the bishopstown or cork city area?

Best bet is to get a broker. We had the same crap told to us by the mainstream companies, a lot of whom flat out refuse to give a quote if you live in Cork City!! Subsidence is a new one though. We were told it was because of the risk of flooding!

O'Mahony, Boyle & Golden in Parnell Place are pretty good.

Bishopstown has awful subsidence problems alright. Nothing new about it.

My mother was recently talking to someone who works in home insurance and was told that it's near possible to get home insurance now in the Cork area if you live between Ballincollig and Carrigaline because of flooding in recent years and subsidance

Wow!! I didn't know that. But asked my husband about it, and he confirmed it. Seems as Bishopstown is in the flattest part of the city, it's prone to it. You learn something new every day...

This I could well believe. I think parts of Blackpool are the same too. I wonder what if anything the City/County council will do to prevent future flooding? Suspect SFA might well be the answer.

K2008 = OMBG are excellent! I have no connection to them apart from being a very happy customer. We have 2 cars + house insurance with them, and we're not a mllion miles from you.

Flooding in B'town? I'd be looking for evidence of flood claims on your road, before accepting that one. Subsidence is another matter entirely, but I presume you had the house surveyed etc before signing anything...? It's a buyers market afterall.

If you didn't have it surveyed etc, why not?
