A single chip? Ridiculous - unless the potato it came from is 3 feet long.

That's inflation alright . For that you'd expect some sauce curry etc .

Yes its too much but people must be paying it!

If those buying it dont think its worth it they wont be back to pay it again, and the price will have to drop.

if its for a standard large bag of chips that most places sell for 2.50 then yes its too much, but if it an extra large package and is more than enough for 2 people then its good value. (some places sell family size bags with enough chips for 3 people)

Its really down to how big "large" is.

€2.50!! most places in carlow range from €1.80-€2.10 for a large bag of chips and most wont charge for ketchup or salt and vinegar.

Most? I've never seen a chipper charge for salt and vinegar.

    Did you pay it?

And there could be other factors being left out for the sake of a good ripoff story. Was this a sit in chipper?, Many which are takeaways with a separate "knife & fork & plate" cafe section. Many they charge a good bit more to sit in.

Were there various size chips available?

Was it late at night with an extra charge put on, like abrakebabra & pubs do?

Were there extras you were not mentioning, ketchup etc.

2.40-260 is what I see most. I think burdocks were the dearest at 2.80. But this is for what most people would understand as being a standard takeaway bag of chips from a regular chipper.

Absolute rip off. 2.50 is standard.

is there a standard price for a bag of chips??
I would not have a clue what a bag of chips cost, normally only eaten on a night out after a few beers.

Pedantic note: that saying refers to wood chips, not potato chips!

    I reckon the same.
but to be pedantic also, you have posted a link to menus, in which I can determine an average price, when the post went up re standard prices I assumed there was and industry standard price to a bag of chips, and that the take away in concern was breaking some sort of code of conduct.

Nope it's definitely a rip off! I was in there and had ordered without seeing the price! Saw the size of the bag and asked for a refund!! Total rip off!

I can't think of any similar retail operation with a industry standard price or code of conduct for pricing. In practice you can expect similar prices for stuff like bars in a newsagent.

With chips I typically see less % variation in prices than say pints. So it is very strange to see 3.75, vs 2.40. Its 56% more, so it'd be like pints being mainly €5 in dublin city and then one pub for €7.80.

They just would not do much business

Is there anything unusual about the place? I find this really puzzling and feel something has to be amiss. As I asked before

Was this a sit in chipper?,
Were there various size chips available?
Was it late at night with an extra charge put on, like abrakebabra & pubs do?
Were there extras you were not mentioning, ketchup etc.

e.g. eddie rockets standard chips are €3.50, this does not surprise me. It is not what I would call a chipper.

We stopped in a town in kidare last friday and we got a nice take away but when we asked for some ketchup the girl behind said the ketchup was 2euro:eek: you get a little tub of it like a portion of curry/coleslaw but not for 2 bucks thanks. grub was lovely though,
