Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can you and do you think it's a good idea from both perspectives.

I generally think from a boss' perspective it's almost better to have an enemy working for you than a friend, friends take liberties whereas I think an enemy would be more likely to try and prove themselves.

Strange attitude, enemies are more likely to rob you than strive to prove themselves surely!
I once had an american lady for a boss, she had great tits and was very friendly as were her friends. Happy days!:D

Would work much harder for someone i like than someone i don't. If you don't like them, then you don't respect them, no way you'd go the extra mile for that person. A good working enviroment is a much more productive one in my opinion.

    Depends on the characters involved.

Had a few jobs in my time. Only once would I claim my boss was my enemy. I was demotivated and hated it, still worked hard though as that is my ethic.

Another time I had an american woman for a boss, she had lovely breasts l and was very friendly. Worked hard in that job as well.

Met her friends a few times, great fun.

I don't think you can, its an unequal relationship, they have more power over you. With my friends I am at least equal.

Depends if its male or female and the age gap,Is it just your immediate boss or the one right at the top,Having asked that, people like to work with people they like and you can develop a friendship with them you just have to be careful its doesnt cross over to far.

If you know you'll be getting shouted at/abuse/shíte appraisal no matter if you work like a black or do very little then why even bother

A manager you respect and you want their approval will get far more out of you

Nah, there's a hierarchy among friends too.

My best mate is my boss. (only been my boss since april, been friends for 9 years).
We discussed how it might affect our friendship, but the bottom line is we're comfy enough to trust each other and know where the boundaries lie.
It's pretty handy, 3 weeks after I started with her my granny passed away- having someone there who knew me and family was very comforting, it would have been so much worse if it had been a new company full of strangers.

Have worked for people that I despised and it was awful, found it extremely difficult to motivate myself in that kind of environment.

My current boss is a great friend. Not that we socialise together outside of work, but she's probably one of the people I get on best with in the company.

better to keep it completely professional - that way no invisible lines will be crossed. Being friends with your boss is the equivalent of renting an apartment with your best friend - it never works out.

Keep the distance for a smoother life.

Nah there is a hierarchy among my mates and visual acquaintances but not my real friend of whom I don't have that many.

Wouldn't socialize with him a lot but like him and go for the odd pint or lunch together and attend his birthdays and whatnot.

I'm married to one of those varieties too, though she's more a general manager than boss.
