Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

THE salaries of Ireland's two best-paid lord mayors are to be cut under proposals next month to slash local-authority spending in light of plummeting revenues.

The move follows a three-year row over allegations the first citizens of both Dublin and Cork are overpaid -- in Cork's case earning more than the prime ministers of Israel, Sweden, Spain and even Russia.
The lord mayor of Cork earns €120,700 a year and also enjoys a new Ford car and a driver as well as generous entertainment and travel budgets.

Cork City Council's Cllr Chris O'Leary (FG) said he estimated that the lord-mayoral package was worth almost €200,000 -- a sum he claimed Ireland's second city simply could not afford.

The lord mayor of Dublin earns almost €70,000 a year but this sum is supplemented by travel and entertainment budgets.

In contrast, the lord mayor of Belfast earns just €55,000 a year -- less than half that of his Cork counterpart.

The Cork one earns more than the above Primeministers , ****in hell and the council are now considering debating cost cutting. Unbelievable that this is even being debated, and its going on for three years :eek:It be funny if it isn't so serious.

Abolish these local councils altogether, nothing but talking shops with no power at all.
Replace Local Councils with reigonal authorities, locals can have a say in these by electing unpaid representaives to air their views.

The Lord Mayor post is a shambles. Without even getting started on the "Lord", it's fixed every year, FG, FF and Labour share it between them meaning the Greens, SF and Independants never get a look in. Hell of alot of money for giving schools half days.

How one of them kept his job the time of the whole fiasco with the 64fm motormout proving you are exactly what you do on the flight from London to Cork is beyond me. Not once did he come out and make a statement on it. He's ok though he deliverd an Aldi to Churchfield.

Chris O'Leary a FG councillor? Don't think so, last I saw he was Sinn Féin. Recheck your source on that one.

    Chris O'Leary - Sinn Féin

The post of Lord Mayor is pretty redundant in Cork City as the City Manager pretty much runs the show. There's no justification for the money the Lord Mayor receives down here.
