Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Republic of Boardsie-land

So, a large uninhabited but life supporting island is found and by some unusual twist of fate, it is granted to the fine folk of Boards to live in, a social experiment or whatever you'd like to call it.
It presents the opportunity to create our own country, with rules and systems that we feel should have been in place in Ireland and also, our own culture etc.
So, if you were planted on this island, what type of society, laws, traditions etc would you like to see? Whatever you want, whatever your IDEAL place would be like.
For example, I'd like for politicians, if we decide to have any, to earn no more than the average citizen and live by a zero corruption policy. Id also like if the politicians were just normal people who were CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE to enter politics rather than electing to do it themselves (excuse the pun). They could be nominated for whatever reason, service to the community, expertise in a certain area etc.
I'd also like to see public humiliation of the people who put hardship intentionally on weaker vulnerable members of society, who terrorise the eldery, sick, alone etc.
What'd be in your ideal land?
Lets say climate, resources etc. would be that of an average EU country.

Given the speed at which threads tend to descend into bitter, partisan, entrenched slanging matches... I predict your 'Republic' would resemble the Thunderdome from Mad Max 3 within a week....

There would be far too many blokes in this land, so I'd probably leave straight away.

Not unlike the jeering and heckling in the Dail so! But what way would you like to see it run, or maybe organise it so the partisans etc could live in harmony, if thats what you wanted? Or you could hand em a sharp object and let em battle it out in a colosseum or whatever, your country, your call!

Right so, only people deemed "fine" may cross our borders.. what standards should they meet?

I wouldn't agree with that unless all the people were allowed to choose and everyone who wanted to could put their name forward (with a reasonable deposit to cut out time wasters). Sort of like a democratic system.

Well I meant it as "ladies and gentlemen" is intended to address everyone. Whether every man is a gentleman or not is debatable but not of my concern and not the point of the thread. Everyone on boards, lets say.

Ok. Glad we got that cleared up :)

i would like a society without money and where everyone works at what at what they love and freely give there creations and in return everyone can take what they need. much would be automated and would free up time for other stuff.

I would like to see the abolishment of all laws and in there place we would have common sence although this is rare on boards ;).

I dont know if polititions in the traditional sence would be needed. I dout it somehow.

Ok, and would we police the country any different to Ireland? Maybe driving further emphasis on serving the people as their main purpose? Ensuring they have whatever they need to do so?

What type of jobs are you talking about?

First thing that come to mind for me is who would drive the dumpster trucks and take out the trash.
But for me in a perfect society there wouldn't be any wast or if there is it would be very miniminal. All bioligocal wast will break down into soil and fetiliser and gas (which can be used as heating.)
Almost all products would be produced and consumed locally (idealy picking from the ground when you are hungry) which removes the nead for most packaging.
Any other 'wast' would be reused.

What jobs are you talking about that no one whould like to do? There could be some but peoples interest and skills vary widly. For example someone would think siting down to code a program would be the most boring thing possible where someone else could get a hard on from the though of it. I think there is jobs that would suit everyone.

Other jobs could be autamated thereby only needing engineers to serivce and maintain (which they like doing).

Good points. Well for me personally things like waste management, pest control, sewerage control etc wouldnt be that appealing but if they were automated or some functioning system like what you suggested was in place then happy days

There's a lot of thing's that would need to be banned from the start such as high fives,X Factor, boy racers etc,You might want to reconsider allowing all board members in,I'm not pointing fingers but the CT's and religious members might be happier on thier own island.I'm looking foward to my invite.
