Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Someone is selling a samurai sword on gumtree.ie , is this illegal?

    At that price, probably.

There's an exemption for swords made before 1954 or "made at any other time according to traditional methods of making swords by hand" but they would be substantially more expensive.

You can also get a shinkai easily enough of you're in training. Big thread on martial arts recently.

As far as I know, shinai aren't controlled under the Firearms & Offensive Weapons Act 1990 (other than the catch-all bits of Section 9). They're not mentioned in SI 66 of 1991 or SI 338 of 2009 as explicitly banned.

Indeed, neither would I unless I had an adequate excuse. A shinai doesn't look like a katana though, so I would expect that most Gardai wouldn't be too bothered so long as it was covered up and you were on your way to or from a kendo session.

I do a good bit of target shooting and I live near one of the ranges I shoot in. I often walk between home and the range with my rifle and/or ammunition. The route, being in Dublin city centre, often takes me past Gardai some of whom give me a quick look and then don't say a word. I've never had any hassle. If I ever do, well, I always have my firearm certificate and the rifle is always dismantled and in a locked box...
