A very good reliable system IMO. Good value for money and easy to install. A good choice for a DIY install.
An alternative would be the HKC Quantum . It's a bit dearer.
You can see some comparrisions here.

In your opinion is the extra cost of the HKC Quantum worthwhile?

There is not much of a price difference on the kits. Both are simple to self install. Out of the two, I would go for the Quantum if money was not an issue.

Does an electrician fitting the system have to be specifically registered if one is looking for a discount on one's house insurance? In the event of a claim could the absence of a registered electrician mean that the house insurance company will not pay out, policy null and void?

Electrician must be PSA licenced to install alarms , full stop. If you employ an unlicensed installer both you and him are breaking the law. An insurance company certainly would render any claim null and void if you were claiming a discount on an illegal installation.

You can install the HKC quantum yourself .
It's easy to set up . The external bell can be wireless too .
The sensors are battery powered and screwed into the windows . The panel can be wired into the back of a socket . 3 wires
Earth, live and neutral . Wire it from a socket or light switch into a fuse spur then into the panel . You won't get much of a discount no matter what alarm you put in . If you seek the discount and forget to set the system your insurance can refuse to cover you .
