Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Our number of free kicks per game will dramatically decrease from here on in without him. Master at the art of diving!

    Ha, too true.

Good player for Ireland over the years but it's amazing how people never really comment on that obvious aspect of his game.

Great attitude and a player who was great to watch on the ball. He was still capable of doing a job. Wish him well in his future league career.

Can't blame him, really. It must be infuriating playing under Trap.

I would echo the sentiments in here. Sad to see Duff retire. He can still do it too, he scored for Fulham last week after a perfectly timed run. Great player and will be missed.

It is true about his diving though. He is a fierce flopper anytime somebody comes within 10 yards of him. He is one of those rare breeds who dives every game and yet doesn't have a bad reputation. It's a bit odd really.

First he breaks my heart by retiring from Ireland and then he sticks a dagger in it by scoring against United.

Can't understand why Robbie wouldn't follow him out. Of the four potential retirees he should have been first our the door. Heard he's staying for the qualifiers. Taking the opportunity away from Doyle, young long and others to get more experience. And he's playing in a paltry auld league. God he'd make you sick. I suppose he's afraid everyone would forget who he is if he spent all his time stateside.

Who's going to get us goals if he goes?

There's so much bitching about Robbie, it drives me nuts. When he retires, it's going to be a proper wake-up to all the people who have been moaning about him for years.

He is our only natural goalscorer at the moment. That's something you never lose. As long as he's happy to play for us, we should let him 'cause the odds are he'll weigh in with a decent share of goals.

Great interview with Duffer on Off The Ball tonight, he's a good bloke to listen to.

Also says that he fancies finishing up with a spell in the League of Ireland, though doesn't think Shamrock Rovers would have him after the abuse they gave a few years back in the Newcastle friendly :pac:

I thought he'd said before that he'd like to play for Bray?

Would be just plain weird having Duff on the left and Daryl Horgan on the right.

Makes me sick already seeing him score goals for us and forcing Trap to pick him

Well he might be scoring freely in a poor US league. We'll see what he'll do for us in the qualifiers. I think he should pack it in. It's just Robbie trying to be a really proud man, proud to put on the Irish jersey and all that nonsense. Other players have to come through at some stage and get some experience. Keane is delaying that because Trap has this weird infatuation with the bloke.

Cobblers lad, he said he will fight for his place and does not expect to be first choice all the time. If the other forwards are good enough they will play. Simple as that.

He might not expect to be first choice but i think he will always be first choice with Trap. The other players need to be given time to become good. They need to get experience of important games. With Keane hanging on they won't get that.

It would help that these "other players" start scoring at their clubs first!

They should all head over to the states, they'd have no bother putting them away over there.

Keane couldn't score in the Premier League now. He's gone to rot. He can score freely in a poor US League though. Hardly makes him better than players who score fewer goals in the Premier League, a much more difficult league.

Keane syill managed 3 or 4 goals whilst with Villa for a month in fairness.

By all accounts he is a very shy person, so it's unlikely he will be making a leap into management.

He might be a big scary beasht in the changing room where all the lads change into their shorts and all though.

This anti-Keane stuff is pathetic. It seems to have escaped some lads that he has actually scored 53 international goals, more than the rest of the squad put together. When he's gone and we have Walters and Cox up front ye'll be crying to have him back.

He's good for one more qualifying campaign even if it was only to have him as an option off the bench. Jesus he's about the only player we have with any consistent record of actually scoring for us yet some want him discarded asap. Madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,909 ✭✭✭Neeson

The record is in the past. Time to move on. Will his record still hold up when he's an O.A.P.? No.

He did well for Ireland but sure you have to let the new fellas in. Cox and Walters aren't going to get much by sitting looking at him aimlessly shuffling around the Aviva Stadium now are they.
