Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Premier League Pitch sizes -Now one size fits all !

So the Premier League (without much fanfare) have finally introduced or changed the rule regarding pitch sizes starting this season.

    The old rule stated :
In League Matches the length of the pitch shall be not more than 110 metres nor less than 100 metres and its breadth not more than 75 metres nor less than 64 metres.”

Now all clubs must comply with a single measurement as per UEFA rules/standard of 105m by 68m (which, in old money, equates to more or less 115 yards by 74 yds).

So what does that mean or impact on ?

It will be interesting to see how Stoke City deal with this change.
They are famous for shortening their pitch size for certain games and would always be on the border of what the minimum pitch size allowed under the old rule (64m/70yds).

Does it make much of a difference ?.. Yes !

Compare say last season Stokes City's pitch with say the Emirates .
Emirates is 8,510 sq yds. At Stoke it’s 7,700.
That is a difference of over 800sq yds.

So its now a level playing field ..excuse the pun .

What if its impossible to comply with the standard? Relatively speaking some grounds have very little run off around the pitch now a days to extend the pitch if ti fails to meet the new standard.

It was funny to see Stoke matches when they were in the Europa League and the markings from the EPL game the week before were cleaned up, it was always a good few feet shorter then the EL minimum allowances.

There is a bit of a get out clause ..

"it is impossible for it to comply… due to the nature of construction of its ground”"

But it would be obvious if clubs are taking the piss .

what is the biggest pitch in the league actually?

and is the Nou Camp really such a big pitch compared to say Stamford Bridge?

I don't like this. What was wrong with the old rule? They better not have it in FM2013.
