From 1 August 2012 Aviva Health no longer allow mid-term cancellations without penalty. Where a policyholder cancels their policy prior to the end of the policy year, or does not pay their premium in accordance with the terms of the policy for the full duration of the policy year, Aviva Health will charge a mid-term cancellation fee. The mid-term cancellation charge will consist of the health insurance levy calculated on a pro-rata basis for each adult, student and child on the policy for the remainder of the policy term, together with an administration fee of €25 per policy.

It also looks like a lot of the other providers are moving to this mode too so if you're considering moving mid term check to see that you wont be penalised. I was luck enough to have switched from Aviva to Glohealth in mid July.

Glo Health, Aviva, Vhi and Laya all have mid year cancellation charges. Some will charge the remainder of the full year's premium for the whole family.
You're the one who is stuck with Glo though !

I knew glo had a minimum period. Quite happy with them actually.

Hospital level 1 is low level of cover, children are cheaper on Aviva's higher plans ! In case you are not aware if you any of you have any pre existing conditions you will have a 2 year upgrade waiting for the extra cover with Glo. Not sure which pack you mean by the meds pack but if you didn't take the International Health & Travel Pack make sure that if you go abroad that you buy travel insurance at full price if you want to have eligible cover.

No money to go anywhere ;) but I know that. Think it's the alternative meds pack then. Primary reason for moving was to protect fully private in public hospital as well as cost. No pre existing conditions so don't mind waiting for upgraded cover. My old hospital level 1 pack was good until aviva cut the full cover and raised prices
